About the job

Do you want to help lead the way for students' learning, well-being and development?

Are you keen to be close to students and staff? Are you motivated by creating good conditions for both academic development and strong communities? And would you like to become part of a school that has ambitions and wishes to develop even more?

Then it might be you we are looking for as our new head of department for the upper secondary.

About Kongehøjskolen

Kongehøjskolen is the largest primary school in Aabenraa Municipality with about 700 students spread over five departments and around 120 staff. We have many different professional backgrounds and believe that close collaboration across disciplines creates the best school for the students.

We are a school with a clear direction and an ambition to be academically and didactically at the forefront. We have a good foundation and a strong desire to constantly develop our practice and make what already works well even better.

At Kongehøjskolen our four core narratives function as a common starting point for our work and as central guiding principles for our pedagogical practice, collaboration and development of the school:

  • Student-centric perspective
  • Professionalism
  • Diversity is a strength
  • Education/Character formation

We believe that students in context do the right thing when they can. We work for strong academic and pedagogical communities and focus on coherence in students' school journey.

About the job

As our new head of department you will have the pedagogical and personnel responsibility for the upper secondary with about 200 students and 17 staff.

For the past three years our school leader has served as head of the upper secondary. Now we are seeking a leader to continue the work in the department. You will enter an upper secondary where there is already good work underway, and where you will have the opportunity to build on the existing foundation

In the upper secondary the staff are academically strong and ambitious. They take responsibility, engage in the school's development and highly value involvement.

As a leader you will be close to everyday life, the staff and the students. You must be able to retain what works well and, together with the staff and other leaders, have an eye for how we can become even better.

Your leadership team

You will become part of a strong and diverse leadership team of five. The team consists of both very experienced leaders and newer leaders and includes different professional backgrounds.

We work closely together on the school's overall operation, development and direction and actively use each other's different perspectives and competencies.

You will also be part of our administration team, which in addition to the management includes three administrative staff. Together we create a well-functioning everyday life where collaboration, helpfulness and shared responsibility are a natural part of the work.

We offer you

With us you will get

  • an exciting leadership role with pedagogical and personnel responsibility for a well-functioning upper secondary
  • a professionally strong and engaged staff group with a desire to develop
  • a strong and collaborative leadership team where we help each other and lift as a team
  • a school where students' learning, well-being and formation as well as professionalism and good relationships are central driving forces
  • an opportunity to put your mark on a school that is in positive development
  • great opportunities to make a difference and leave a mark in many children's lives

About you

We are looking for a leader who can create the framework for strong class communities where students thrive and succeed. You want to be close to the upper secondary's everyday life and will, together with the staff, help develop a professional, academically strong and attractive upper secondary.

Professionally we expect that you

  • have strong pedagogical insight and an understanding of the school's practice
  • are interested in and preferably experienced with the upper secondary and working with young people
  • have an eye for what characterises a professional school and a strong professional collaboration
  • are keen to actively engage in close cooperation with staff, leadership and administration

Personally we expect that you

  • are optimistic and see opportunities as well as meet others with energy and commitment
  • are team-spirited, present and clear in your leadership and can set direction and create followers
  • are delegating and trust in the staff's competencies
  • are decisive when the situation calls for it and can make decisions
  • are strategic and analytical
  • are organized and can create overview, prioritise and ensure progress
