About the job

Do you want to help create strong participation opportunities for all children while being a presence and clear leader for our staff?

We are looking for a department head who wants to become part of our leadership team and contribute to developing our school with a focus on people, professionalism and community.

With us, the students are the focal point. We work project-based and for the past 5 years have been part of a strong LEAPS network. Leaps schools | Leaps schools

We are committed to creating a school where children experience meaning, curiosity and a desire to learn. We have a strong focus on the general curriculum and on creating participation opportunities for all kinds of children. It requires both strong professional competences, a clear view of children, and a view of people rooted in trust, respect and the belief that all children can contribute to the community. We value play, curiosity and creative learning methods as part of children’s formation and development.

We are looking for a leader who

is relationship-based and understands that good leadership primarily concerns people. You must be able to be close to the staff, be curious about their perspectives and at the same time give space for them to develop their professionalism and solve their tasks with freedom and responsibility.

You must be able to create followers. This means you can set direction, be clear about expectations and make decisions, while also inviting dialogue and truly being interested in others’ perspectives.

You must be able to navigate safely between operations and strategy. Everyday life at a school requires overview, structure and the ability to finish tasks, while we must always keep an eye on long-term development. You are therefore both structured, flexible and good at prioritizing.

As a member of the leadership team you must be able to work closely together, take responsibility and stand by the shared decisions. We divide tasks among us, but primarily see ourselves as one leadership team that together bears responsibility for the school’s development and daily life.

Phase Leader for year groups 0-4

As phase leader you will have a particular responsibility for our youngest students and for the close collaboration between teachers, educators and the school’s after-school care (SFO).

We see pedagogical and academic collaboration as a strong asset. Together we shall create good transitions, strong communities and learning environments where pupils can participate in different ways and feel that they belong.

You must therefore want to be close to both staff, pupils and pedagogical practice and help strengthen the coherence between school and leisure time.

A school with strong local anchoring

Hornbæk School is closely connected to the local community we are part of. Many of our parents have attended the school themselves, and several of our staff have children here. This creates a very special attachment to the school and a strong community around it. The school board is actively involved and supports the school’s values with strong principles that follow societal development and are dynamic. Local associations participate actively in the school’s daily life and support and participate in sports days etc.

The local engagement means a lot to us. We want a department head who is eager to be a visible part of this community and who sees parental cooperation as an important part of the school’s task.

We offer

  • a school with a strong academic and value-based foundation
  • an engaged and competent staff community
  • a close and trusting collaboration in the leadership team
  • an opportunity to influence the school’s continued development
  • a daily life close to children, staff and educators
  • a school with strong local anchoring and a high commitment from both staff and parents.

In Helsingør Municipality we are engaging in a common municipal development

We are part of a municipality that has a strong focus on developing the school’s participation capacity. This means that we work together to strengthen the general area so that more children can be part of the communities they already belong to.

For us, it is not about children fitting into the school, but about us as a school being adept at creating learning environments and communities where different children can participate in different ways. This requires us to develop our pedagogical and didactic practices and become even better at seeing opportunities and acting on them.

As department head you will be an important part of this development. You must be able to support staff in translating ambitions into practice, be close to the pedagogical everyday life and, together with the leadership team, help create the organizational framework that makes it possible.

We see participation capacity as something we develop together in management, among staff and in the close collaboration between teachers and educators. Our secretariat is a strong team that supports the administrative management tasks, so more leadership time can be spent on personnel and school development.

We are looking for you who can stand firm and be curious, create structure and give space, and have an eye for the individual employee and for the school’s overall direction.

You do not need to be able to do everything from day one. Instead, you should want to learn, ask, collaborate and take responsibility.

We expect you to have a leadership education, or be willing to pursue it.

Are you eager to join? We look forward to hearing from you.

The position is full-time and will commence December 1, 2026.

Application deadline is Tuesday, October 20 at 12:00.

There will be 2 interviews. The first interview is expected to take place Thursday the 22nd after 14:00 and the second interview Monday the 26th of October after 14:00. Between the two interviews references will be obtained by agreement.

If you have any questions about the position, you are welcome to call acting school principal Jeanette Scaglione Jordahn or department head Charlotte Jensen at the school’s phone number 4928 1680.

The position is remunerated according to the collective agreement, with placement on the relevant base salary grade. Potential pay supplements for functions and qualifications are offered after negotiation based on Helsingør Municipality’s pay policy.

Helsingør Municipality requires a criminal and child protection clearance for the applicant who is proposed for hiring, and this will be included in the final overall assessment.

Read more about our school at www.hornbaekskole.dk or on our Facebook page.

You must submit your application via the municipality’s website www.helsingor.dk .

In Helsingør Municipality we value that staff and leaders develop their professional skills. Therefore we focus on creating coherence between the ambitious development of the entire Helsingør Municipality and the further education of both staff and leaders – professionally and personally.
