About the job

Head of Elderly Supervision North

Do you want to lead and further develop a well-functioning supervision in the elderly sector with a focus on learning and dialogue? Then this position is for you!

In Elderly Supervision North, after just over a year of operation, we have decided to give the supervision even more attention and closer management by dedicating a full leadership position to the task. We are therefore seeking a professionally strong, clear and inclusive leader who can ensure coherence, (one) direction, quality and further development of the elderly supervision.

About the position

Elderly Supervision North conducts supervision with and provides advisory and sparring to all care units in a large part of Jutland. The supervision started in July 2025 based on the elder reform and has gotten off to a good start. We have gained the first learning experiences with running a learning- and dialogue-oriented supervision based on the Elderly Supervision Act and are becoming a well-functioning organization.

We have developed a number of tools and procedures in the past year and are continuing to develop, among other things, a risk model for care units as well as our advisory and sparring packages to the units. This is done in close collaboration with the two other elderly supervisions, the Danish Health Authority, and the Ministry of Children, the Elderly, and Housing.

Currently, we are also preparing a joint evaluation of the elderly supervision in collaboration with KL and the ministry. The evaluation will likely yield development tasks that we are ready to tackle together with the new leader.

As the leader of Elderly Supervision North, you will be responsible for carrying out the supervision task in the elderly sector. You will be the direct manager of eight professionally skilled and engaged supervision consultants, of whom one acts as a professional coordinator. The employees carry out their supervision tasks primarily based at their home workplaces, as they are based and supervise in a large part of Jutland. There is a fixed in-person day for employees at least one day per week at the workplace in Vrå. You must therefore be ready to be a visible and approachable leader despite physical distance.

Your task is to translate the organization’s goals and priorities into a meaningful direction for the department and ensure high quality in the supervision work and create the right framework for the employees’ task execution and development. We also work with a risk-based approach in the supervision. This means a particular focus on ensuring that resources are used where there is the greatest need.

You must also adhere to Elderly Supervision North’s values of credibility, professionalism and dialogue by exercising leadership and authority with integrity, high professional quality and respectful communication as well as by creating trustful relationships and constructive collaborations.

We expect

We expect you to have the following competencies

  • you have experience from the elderly sector and have a good understanding of the elder reform and the Elderly Supervision Act
  • you have experience as a leader, preferably of professionally strong and independent employees
  • you have a leadership education, or a possible desire to complete one
  • you have experience with or in-depth knowledge of authority or supervision tasks
  • you are a strong communicator - both verbally and in writing
  • you have a strategic view of task execution and development in an organization like ours

As a leader we hope

  • you have an inclusive, trust-based and appreciative leadership style with a focus on psychological safety in task execution
  • you can set a clear direction and gain followership
  • you maintain focus on and follow through on initiated tasks and projects
  • you are a clear and present leader with a sharp focus on the core task
  • you can stand firm when the wind blows around you – e.g., in potentially conflict-filled dialogues with care units
  • you are comfortable in an authority role

We offer

A meaningful leadership position with great significance for the implementation of the elder reform in Denmark.

You will become part of a well-functioning, ambitious and experienced leadership group, characterized by cross-cutting task solving, good structure, trust, support and good humor. We hold weekly leadership meetings and have a high degree of coordination across. You will participate in continuous one-on-one meetings with the head of supervision and leadership supervision about four times a year.

As the leader of elderly supervision, you have many external collaboration relations, e.g., the other leaders of elderly supervision in Denmark, partners in the Danish Health Authority, KL and the Ministry of Children, Elderly and Housing. Travel activity must therefore be expected. In addition, you will naturally have contact with many managers, leaders and quality staff at the care units we supervise.

You report to the head of supervision, who is the chief of both Elderly Supervision North and Social Supervision North. The two supervisions share offices in Vrå and focus on a strong sense of teamwork both internally and across the two supervisions. We also share staff between the two supervisions. We expect you to be visible in the building in Vrå several days a week.

Elderly Supervision North is organizationally anchored in Hjørring Municipality, and we are therefore covered by Hjørring Municipality’s personnel policies and benefit from the employee advantages of being employed by Hjørring Municipality.

A thorough onboarding program will be planned for you as a leader, and you will, among other things, have the former head of Elderly Supervision North as a close colleague. In addition, Hjørring Municipality offers a leadership mentoring program for new leaders, where you will receive an experienced leader as a mentor from another administrative area in the municipality.

About Elderly Supervision North

Elderly Supervision North is one of Denmark’s three elderly supervisions and is organizationally placed in Hjørring Municipality. The supervision started on 1 July 2025, so we are still a relatively new organization that is developing and implementing various tools, etc., to support our workflows.

We supervise and provide advisory and sparring to around 580 care units that provide comprehensive care under the Elderly Act, i.e., nursing homes and providers of comprehensive care, both private and municipal, in Northern Jutland and a large part of Central Jutland.

The supervision is learning- and dialogue-based and carried out according to a fixed concept described in a handbook prepared in collaboration with the Ministry of Elder Affairs: Handbook on elderly supervision and joint supervision in the elderly area for supervision consultants in elderly supervision.

There is a strong emphasis on ensuring that supervision is carried out consistently across the country’s elderly supervisions, hence there is naturally close collaboration with the other two supervisions on workflows and guidelines, etc.
