About the job
Re-advertisement
Do you want to lead school development in one of Denmark's largest and most diverse municipalities?
In the City of Copenhagen, we invest heavily in our school system, and together with a strong chief of schools team you will set direction and collaborate on solutions across the city. We are re-advertising the position in the hope that more experienced leaders will see themselves in the role.
In Copenhagen's schools, children should thrive, be formed and be equipped for their future lives. Our children grow up in very different families and under very different conditions, and the task is to create equity and diverse child communities, where more children can be part of the community and have the opportunity to succeed.
The City Council and the Committee on Children and Youth have set the direction, the ambitions are high, and there are three-digit million investments. You do not stand alone in the development task, as we have expanded leadership capacity significantly in the past year. You will have three close chief of schools colleagues with whom you will develop the school area in Copenhagen. You will translate political direction, share experiences, and find common solutions to challenges across the city. Read more about the political direction on the website Schools and day-care centers that can do more for more .
As Chief of Schools for Area North you will have overall responsibility for the area's 21 schools and for leading the school leaders so they succeed with their leadership tasks at both schools and KKFO's (Copenhagen for SFOs). You must translate political decisions and strategic ambitions and through participatory leadership create security so that the schools can succeed with the task.
An exciting task and a strong leadership community
You will play a central role in developing a new leadership community, as Area North was consolidated in January 2026 after a merger of two city areas. Here, an important task is to create a common direction and a strong leadership community where school leaders experience meaning in the common priorities and actively use each other across.
Your closest colleague will be the head responsible for day care and the cross-disciplinary support in Area North. Together you have shared leadership of the area and you must ensure an 0-18-year perspective and coherence in the overall leadership task.
Together with the entire management group in the Department for Children and Youth, where you are 17 managers and three directors, you help carry the top leadership of the entire children and youth area in Copenhagen. We have a strong and close collaboration in the management team, so you must be able to share responsibility, take on tasks across organizational boundaries, and have an eye for the overall task. Read more about the Children and Youth Committee's strategy here.
We expect that you
- primarily can collaborate – you must be focused on the overall task rather than your own area and be able to create results through others
- have solid experience with leading other leaders, preferably with knowledge of the school area and experience with administrative work
- with your leadership experience can set direction and stand for a complex leadership task
- master strategic leadership and change management
- have the courage to stand firm when necessary, and the discernment to know when the solution must be found together with others.
About the Department for Children and Youth
You will become part of the Department for Children and Youth, where we are over 18,000 employees with responsibility for more than 100,000 children. In Area North you will become part of a strong area management and take on leadership responsibility for 21 school leaders. Read more about Area North's organization here .
Area North covers Nørrebro, Bispebjerg, Brønshøj and Vanløse and is characterised by the diversity that characterises Copenhagen.
Salary and employment conditions
The position is filled on a collective agreement basis. Start date is 1 January 2027. We offer an annual salary of DKK 1,034,000 excluding pension. Salary and employment conditions according to the applicable collective agreement and within the framework of local salary formation. In connection with the employment we will obtain a child and criminal record check and take references.
