About the job
Are you passionate about teaching dedicated employees and leaders? Would you like to join a professional team that educates military and civilian caseworkers throughout the group? Do you have a strong interest in pedagogy? Then you may be our upcoming colleague in the Section for Continuing Education.
About us
The Institute for Leadership and Organization (ILO) contributes to creating more combat power for the Defence by delivering education and professional training to the Defence’s managers and leaders, equipping them to meet the Defence’s immediate challenges as well as the Defence’s long-term known and unknown military challenges, so the Defence can win on the battlefield of the future.
The institute has a strong, ambitious and developing professional environment with an informal tone. We prioritise close interaction between education, research and experience from organizational and leadership development. In this way, we ensure that we can offer managers and leaders the most relevant and up-to-date competence development. This places great demands on us to constantly adapt to the needs of the time and keep ourselves professionally up to date.
The Continuing Education Section offers courses in leadership, administration and case processing to all employees in the group as well as military and civilian leaders and managers. In line with the Defence’s current development, the courses are under continuous development, which you are expected to become a natural part of.
There are about 60 employees at ILO, of which the Continuing Education Section comprises 10 staff members and one head.
About the position.
The position is at the study assistant level, alternatively a senior lecturer level depending on competencies and experience. Here, attention is paid to teaching experience and whether you have completed a pedagogical training.
The Continuing Education section consists of three teams, and you will join Team Case Processing. Your primary task will be as course leader and teacher to plan, organise, conduct and evaluate teaching on the course Case Processing and Administrative Law . The teaching is closely coordinated with your team colleagues. ILO has three external jurists attached, who deliver the teaching in administrative law, so your role will be to teach the subject of Case Processing.
The course aims to train military and civilian employees to be able to perform the function as case researcher in the group’s staffs and commands, where good case processing and decision briefs contribute to good decisions and thus combat power.
The course’s primary target group is captains/lieutenants in the role of new case processors in staffs and commands, but there is generally a very diverse participant group on the course. This very variety contributes to a good learning environment, where participants share and learn from each other’s experiences. The course has been offered since 2014. The team also conducts courses in Defence Writing Method for more experienced case processors.
A secondary function will be to contribute to the development of the courses so that they at all times remain relevant for participants and commissioning authorities. In addition, you should expect to contribute to the section’s other case processing tasks, just as you will be given other tasks depending on ILO needs and your competences and interests.
You are expected to complete the Defence Academy’s pedagogical training, which strengthens teachers’ pedagogical and didactic competences. In addition, there will be continuous professional development within your professional area.
Case Processing and Administrative Law consists of four in-person modules of two days each. Eight courses are offered annually from 2027 – which is a tripling of the offerings. Half of the courses are conducted online. The courses are conducted at Defence establishments across Denmark, so there will be some travel associated with the position. You will participate in the planning yourself so that special needs can usually be accommodated.
About you
You have a background as a case processor, typically a freelancer, at one of the group’s authorities or a similar position. Through this you have built up solid knowledge of case processing and the workflows in a staff, command or agency. You also have a relevant academic master's degree.
It is an advantage if you have teaching experience from previous positions.
You wish to contribute to educating the group’s future case processors, who can contribute to integrity in administration and to preparing good decision briefs. You have good collaborative skills and are used to joining in professional communities with passionate colleagues.
You communicate well verbally and in writing and you can see yourself engaging in constructive, developmental dialogues with participants, colleagues, partners and commissioning authorities. You manage to keep a cool head in a busy everyday life, and you thrive with a leadership style where you and your colleagues translate the manager’s directives and intentions into high-quality teaching for the benefit of the Defence.
You are able to contribute to a good working environment among colleagues and in the classroom.
During your career you have further developed your competences.
Terms of employment
The employment is governed by the applicable collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Collective Agreement) and the Circular on the protocol on certain terms of employment for academic civilians, researchers and teachers at the Defence Academy and the Provision regarding job structure for civilian employed researchers with and without teaching obligations, as well as civilian employed academic teachers at the Defence Academy.
Depending on your qualifications and competences, there is an opportunity for negotiation of supplements. There is an employer-funded pension scheme associated with the position.
The workplace is in Copenhagen Ø.
As an employee within the Defence Ministry’s area, you are subject to certain special terms. You must, among other things, be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance throughout the employment.
You, as an employee, are required to perform service outside the country’s borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participation in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, humanitarian and other similar operations.

Defence Academy
At the Defence Academy we educate the future leaders in the Defence, so they become some of the best in NATO. Our education is anchored in the military profession within the Army, Navy and Air Force, as well as cross-cutting elements across the three services.
The education ranges from the basic non-commissioned officer and officer educations in one of the three services or as a language officer, to further education courses and standalone courses for Defence employees, to a Master in Military Studies. All advanced education is based on research within our three core areas; military operations, military strategy and military leadership, which are handled by the academy’s five institutes.
In addition to delivering research-based teaching, our military knowledge is widely used inside and outside the Defence for the benefit of society, our allies and other partners. The Academy has a large network of partners at both Danish and international research and educational institutions, and contributes to the development of NATO doctrines and research projects.
