About the job

Coherent educational program in General Medicine – from the Basic Clinical Training (KBU) to specialist in general medicine

Are you the upcoming KBU doctor in autumn 2027 with ambitions to become a general practitioner, and do you want an education program where you know the framework for your further training and your appointments all the way to the specialist recognition? Then Region Zealand's coherent education program with KBU, introductory post and main training program might be something for you.

Region Zealand has the privilege of offering 5 coherent training pathways annually, which bind your education journey together – from the first steps in clinical basic training to your completion as a specialist in general medicine. This continuity means you get an early overview of your appointments, and you do not need to focus on where you should apply for your next training position.

Instead, you can concentrate on the most important: developing yourself as a physician in the same geographical area without interruptions in the training program. By knowing your education path all the way, you also get a unique opportunity to plan life outside work – e.g., housing, family, and transportation.

We place great emphasis on offering our education doctors a stimulating educational and learning environment with the best possible education at a high professional level. We believe that the combination of high quality and continuity provides increased well-being and the best basis for professional and personal development, and all in the same area.

General practice is Denmark's largest medical specialty. As a general practitioner you play a central role in the health care system – you are the patient’s regular doctor and often the first link in the treatment chain. Your core task is to provide holistic, coherent and continuous care based on the individual patient’s life situation. You follow patients through the life stages, see both the acute and the chronic, and work with prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.

Organizationally, general practice is an independent and dynamic part of the health system. You run your own clinic or participate in a collaboration with colleagues, where you influence operations, development and cooperation with municipalities, the region and hospitals. Here you have the opportunity to combine high professionality, continuous patient contact and a working life with a great degree of independence and flexibility.

In the coherent education program, the KBU program in practice and the introductory position are normally in the same practice, while the main training will be in another practice but in the same local area.

To be eligible for a coherent program you should expect to be registered for the 2027-2 KBU round with the Danish Health Authority. If you are offered a coherent education program, you will be exempt from the KBU scheme and will not receive a ballot number.

If you are qualified, you will be invited to a recruitment interview on December 8, 2026 at the Regional House in Sorø, Alleen 15, 4180. In this round there are two positions distributed across physician-depleted areas in Region Zealand.

We recommend that your motivated application be no more than one page and focus on medical expertise and collaboration, as well as why you should be a general practitioner, and which program you are applying for.

With a coherent education program in Region Zealand you get not only a job – you get a predictable education path for 6 years from KBU doctor to specialist in general medicine in the same geographical area. You gain security, stability and the opportunity to build a career with depth, influence and meaning.
