About the job

Would you like to help make things happen when someone needs help – and at the same time learn how to work strategically with communication that supports voluntary engagement?

The Danish Red Cross Parat is a nationwide aid network with more than 11,000 volunteer Parat helpers who step in when someone in Denmark needs support.

In the Help Line at the Danish Red Cross’ national headquarters in Copenhagen, a team of volunteers and staff matches people who need help with others who are willing to help – quickly, in a structured and considerate way.

As an intern you will be part of a team that makes things happen – in practice and with communication as a tool. You will gain insight into how volunteering is organized, how systems and people interact, and how knowledge can be translated into action.

Your tasks

As an intern you will have the opportunity to both contribute to operations and develop new knowledge. Your main tasks will be to:

  • Coordinate and organize the matching in the Help Line by, together with colleagues and volunteers, speaking with people who either need help or want to help as Parat helpers. You will thus become an important part of the first link in the aid chain and gain experience with direct contact and dialogue in a professional volunteer environment.
  • Collaborate with organizations and Red Cross branches to match volunteers to tasks where extra hands are needed.
  • Carry out an independent communication project on Parat’s target groups or volunteers – e.g., through case studies, portraits and targeted use of different communication channels. The project will be adapted to your learning objectives and Parat’s needs.

We are looking for someone who…

  • is pursuing a higher education – for example in social sciences, communication, organization or humanities – but could also be in another field,
  • is interested in how communication, collaboration and strategy can be used to create social value,
  • communicates clearly and respectfully with many different people,
  • can work independently, take initiative and follow up tasks to the end
  • and would like to combine professionalism and engagement in a practical community where volunteering becomes tangible.

Framework for the internship

  • The period runs from February start to the end of June 2027. The exact period is agreed mutually so that it fits with your study regulations.
  • You work 3–5 days per week, depending on your studies. We are flexible regarding schedules and exams.
  • The internship is unpaid, but we provide lunch.
  • You will receive ongoing 1:1 sparring with your internship supervisor and there is an opportunity to participate in internal continuing education and courses if it matches your learning objectives.
  • There will be evening meetings 1–2 times during the internship period.
  • Workplace: The Danish Red Cross’ national headquarters, Blegdamsvej 27, 2100 Copenhagen Ø.

Application – we do it a little differently

We believe that competencies and motivation can look many ways. Therefore we do not ask for a traditional application.

Instead, we would like you to

  • Send your CV without a photo, age or indication of gender/gender identity , but with concrete descriptions of what you have tried and learned.
  • Answer three questions:
  • What motivates you about working with volunteering, communication and social work?
  • Tell about a situation where you helped create a communication product you are proud of – alone or with others.
  • What do you hope to learn or become wiser about in an internship with us?

We encourage everyone who is qualified to apply – regardless of gender, age, disability, field of study or background. We also welcome applicants who can bring new perspectives, experiences and ideas into the team.

Please send us your CV and answers to the questions no later than 25 October 2026 by uploading both parts via the link. If you are invited to an interview, you can expect to hear from us on 28 October . We expect to conduct interviews in weeks 44 and 45 .

If you have questions, you are welcome to contact the program lead at the Danish Red Cross Parat, Rie Ljungmann, at email [email protected] or phone 5369 4310.
