About the job
Neurology in Hospital Unit Midt (HEM) and Regionshospital Hammel Neurocenter have a collaboration around neurorehabilitation as a neurological core area, and there is a combined introductory position (6630-07-20-i-7) available with the possibility to work both with broad neurology at Neurology HEM and in the specialized neurorehabilitation at Regionshospital Hammel Neurocenter, which is also a university clinic. The position is available for filling as of 1 December 2026 or by agreement.
The first half of the combination position is as an introductory physician in Neurology, HEM for 6 months.
Neurology is an exciting specialty with many different possibilities—from the acute to the long-term chronic courses. The department manages patients with very different disease pictures, ranging from common neurological conditions to diseases requiring highly specialized diagnostic work and treatment. We work in multidisciplinary teams organized by subspecialties. As an I-physician you will learn to handle acute assessments across a broad range of the most common neurological conditions.
As an I-physician you will have clinically relevant work with good opportunities for supervision and training of your neurological skills. We prioritize your teaching and education highly. The department has a training team with a training responsible chief physician, a training-coordinating junior doctor, and a training-coordinating secretary. The cornerstone of the education is the supervision with feedback, which you have the opportunity for in the clinical work.
There is an opportunity for evaluation – not only of competences within the medical expert role – but of all 7 physician roles. All I-physicians are offered a 360-degree evaluation with a subsequent facilitator conversation.
The position includes an introduction to the department of at least 5 days in addition to the general introduction for all new employees at the hospital. Your individual education during the employment you plan yourself with guidance from your main supervisor, who will be one of the department’s specialists.
If you have research ambitions, there is an opportunity to participate in smaller research projects, possibly to continue with a PhD. We primarily value the development of clinical competences and education to be able to independently work with the investigation and treatment of neurological patients.
There is a two-shift duty with on-call from home after 23.00.
About the department
Neurology is geographically divided into 2 departments with Neurology, Regionshospital Viborg and Vestdansk Center for Spinal Cord Injury, located at Søndersø in Viborg. Neurology has a 15-bed ward, distributed across 4 main functional beds for patients with sequelae after acute stroke, who are rehabilitated in close collaboration between the department and the municipalities, and 11 general neurology beds. There is a large outpatient clinic with an acute clinic, diagnostic outpatient clinic and subspecialty clinics, where we work in multidisciplinary teams.
In addition, the department includes a neurophysiology clinic and neuropsychological function.

The half of the combination position as an introductory physician at Regionshospital Hammel Neurocenter 6 months.
Regionshospital Hammel Neurocenter has a highly specialized function for the most severe cases of acquired brain injury in West Denmark and a regional function for the moderately injured patients from Region Midtjylland. We are a development hospital within neurorehabilitation with close integration of clinic, research and education. With this position we would like to provide a basis for strengthened specialist competencies within the neurorehabilitation area in the neurological specialty.
Neurorehabilitation is one of the core areas in the neurology specialty and very broad in medical terms. During the stay you will learn about both the neurological functional impairments and the examination and diagnostic work, their treatment and assessment of effect. In addition, you will learn a craft and a method in the rehabilitation field, which will be useful regardless of how your medical career continues.
Methodology in working multidisciplinary, goal-oriented approach, holding multidisciplinary conferences, the inclusive and patient-family involved approach, etc. The focus is on the patient’s side in “function” to a greater extent than on “symptom.”
About the position
The introductory position at Regionshospital Hammel Neurocenter is a clinical position where you are assigned to a specific ward throughout the entire period. You therefore quickly gain both professional competencies within the patient group and a familiar work environment to be a part of. You will work closely with the ward’s chief physician, where you will have ongoing sparring with each other about the patients’ treatment and course.
This provides daily opportunities for side-by-side learning, feedback and supervision in addition to the formal teaching. There is an opportunity for evaluation of all 7 physician roles. In addition to the neurological diagnosis, many patients have a number of comorbidities, which we treat during their admission. You will therefore gain a broad insight into the multimorbid neurological patient’s needs and challenges.
In this work you will have a close collaboration with your medical colleagues who have different specialty backgrounds including neurology, neurosurgery and internal/general medicine. Daytime work consists of ward rounds and ordinary clinical work, weekly multidisciplinary conference, patient-family meetings in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, cross-sector collaboration and insight into medical leadership in a ward.
Day work is organized with shared responsibility for certain patient pathways, which provides great continuity in the work.
The position is linked to the Hammel campus and is on-call free, but if the introductory physician wishes to take on-call shifts, there is an option to perform this function.
