About the job
Because we have a problem, we still need new colleagues.
We have colleagues who have retired, had babies, are away to study further or have felt like trying something new. Therefore we currently lack some new colleagues.
We think we have the best ward, but we also know that we are not for everyone. Therefore we have chosen that you get a job advertisement that is written by your perhaps future colleagues. We would like to tell you what it is actually like to work at MSA.
Some days are busy, so busy that you think, “I’ll never get home today...”
Some patients are easy, while other patients require you to stand with a colleague and say: “What do you see?” or “What do you think?”.
But…
We can promise you that you won’t be left alone.
Because that is perhaps one of the most important things at MSA.
When you don’t know, there is always someone you can ask.
When you can’t, then your colleagues are there to teach you.
When the patient is complicated, there is a colleague you can take with you.
When you need an extra pair of eyes or hands, you get it.
And when the day has been completely crazy, there are people in the staff room who understand exactly what you mean.
We can promise you a ward with specialties that make you never feel there is nothing left to learn, while you also get specialties that allow you to work where you want after just a few years, if that is your wish. We simply don’t promise that you will be able to do everything from day one. MSA is a place where you can gain lifelong learning and development.
And then there are the colleagues you can expect to have. They are not exactly clever either. Imagine that they keep turning up day after day, year after year. When you hear the conversations in the staff room, you can honestly question whether they are well-educated people. There is loud laughter, lots of candy and cake in amounts that are almost unhealthy. Here, big and small things are discussed. We talk about recipes. We talk about training, We talk about family, Tinder dates, planning birthdays and much more.
There is room for humor. Also dark and wry humor. You will get colleagues you go on pub crawls with, you host Friday bars with, go to the cinema with, or go on walks with. You can make friends who show up for morning singing when you celebrate your copper wedding. For who wouldn’t want colleagues you can laugh and cry with, celebrate small victories with and share your frustrations with?
We believe that one can be professional, caring and professionally serious – and at the same time have a lot of fun together.
We feel the sense of community when the difficult patient journeys are discussed in the office, when you need help to send yet another sample as ordered by one of the infectious disease doctors.
Our three specialties (geriatrics, endocrinology and infectious diseases) are very different and therefore have very different patient journeys. Journeys that require very different things from us.
We have a patient with a simple course, where everything is textbook. Easy to treat, easy to discharge – something we can usually handle ourselves.
Our geriatric patients often require something more than that, and some of it cannot be read in a book; you have to learn by working with it in everyday life, with the patients and in the community with colleagues.
It is an exciting, fun, frustrating and at times completely insane job.
But most of all it is rewarding.
You can quickly learn the basics – place a venous cannula, give blood, set up High Flow, place a catheter, train patients to measure blood sugar and take insulin. Okay, perhaps not completely basic things, but perhaps you understand the point – it quickly becomes basic competencies.
So if we haven’t scared you away yet, here is the practical information
- Permanent position of 37 hours/week.
- Start as soon as possible
- Weekend work every 2nd or every 3rd week.
- Mixed shifts – either day and evening shifts or day and night shifts.
