About the job
Are you moving forward in psychiatry and looking for a position with a high patient flow, broad clinical scope and good opportunities for supervision and professional development?
Psykiatrisk Center Amager is seeking a junior doctor for an unclassified position in our Emergency Ward (Akutsøjlen) with immediate start.
Are you our new colleague?
We are looking for you who have experience from psychiatry and would like to develop your clinical competencies further. We imagine that you have at least one year of experience in psychiatry and perhaps are considering continuing your medical career within the specialty.
Your clinical work will primarily take place in our open intake unit C2 and closed intensive intake unit C3. Here you will meet patients early in their admission and become part of a professional environment with close interdisciplinary collaboration, high activity and good learning opportunities.
Welcome to the Emergency Ward
The vast majority of patients admitted acutely to Psykiatrisk Center Amager begin their hospitalisation in the Emergency Ward. This provides a large and varied patient population and significant clinical learning potential.
You will meet patients with many different psychiatric issues and follow the first part of the hospitalisation – from acute assessment, diagnostics and treatment to treatment planning, discharge or further treatment in the centre.
A central task is to meet newly admitted patients the day after admission and, together with the patient and the multidisciplinary team, lay out a plan for the further course. Shorter courses are completed in the Emergency Ward, while patients needing longer treatment are transferred to a relevant ward at the center.
The high patient flow provides an opportunity to quickly build broad clinical experience, while we prioritise supervision, reflection and learning in everyday life.
Your tasks
As a junior doctor you will be an integrated part of the daily clinical operations on C2 and C3. Your tasks will include:
- Assessment and review of newly admitted patients
- Diagnostic clarification as well as preparation and follow-up on treatment plans
- Psychopharmacological treatment and follow-up
- Assessment of the need for continued admission, discharge or transfer
- Collaboration with patients, relatives and relevant collaborators
- Participation in conferences and interdisciplinary treatment planning
- Close collaboration with nurses, social and health care assistants, psychologists, specialists and other professions.
You will also join the on-call team, which covers shifts in our emergency reception and other departments of the center.
The Psychiatric Act in everyday clinical life
Working in the closed intensive unit gives you the opportunity to gain experience with the Psychiatric Act and psychiatric law in practice.
You will receive supervision and training in the application of the act in concrete clinical situations, including the interplay between medical assessment, patient rights and the legal framework for the treatment.
You will also receive training in relevant documentation and preparation of statements, as well as the possibility of gaining experience with cases and meetings at the Danish Psychiatric Complaint Board (PKN).
Supervision and clinical learning
We prioritise supervision and learning highly. You will have the opportunity for ongoing supervision, professional sparring and structured clinical observation with subsequent feedback from experienced doctors, specialists and a clinical psychologist.
We aim for an environment where it is natural to ask questions, discuss clinical considerations and seek supervision. The degree of independence and supervision is adjusted to your experience, your professional level and your learning needs.
The position also provides the possibility for you to influence the content according to your professional level, experience and interests.
A strong interdisciplinary environment
You will become part of a large and engaged staff group, where we work closely together for the benefit of the patients and the daily operations.
We place emphasis on good interdisciplinary collaboration and on utilising each other’s competencies. We help each other – even when the pace is high – and we desire an environment with room for professional discussions, questions, curiosity and different perspectives.
Who are you?
We imagine that you
- are a doctor with at least one year of experience in psychiatry
- have an interest in psychiatry and a desire to develop professionally
- perhaps are considering further study and specialization in psychiatry
- can maintain calm and overview in a busy daily routine
- are curious, engaged and have a can-do attitude
- enjoy interdisciplinary collaboration
- are proactive about supervision, feedback and your own learning
- contribute positively to the professional and collegial community.
We place great emphasis on your personal qualities and on having a desire to collaborate, learn and actively contribute to the daily clinical life.
What do we offer you?
We offer
- a large and varied patient base with high clinical learning potential
- ongoing supervision and structured clinical observation with feedback
- close professional sparring with experienced doctors, specialists and a clinical psychologist
- experience with the Psychiatric Act, psychiatric law and the Danish Psychiatric Complaint Board
- opportunity to influence the content of the position according to experience, professional level and interests
- a strong interdisciplinary and collegial environment
- good opportunities for teaching and professional development
- a center with a close connection between clinic, education and research
- visible and engaged leaders.
We hope that you would like to become our new colleague and help contribute to the professional environment in the Emergency Ward.

The position is an unclassified reserve physician position of 37 hours per week with immediate start.
