Church Sexton at Brønderslev Church and Parish House (re-advertisement)

We are seeking a church caretaker who will contribute to keeping the church a good place to be.

There is a part-time position of 20 hours per week , where evening and weekend work may occur.

Brønderslev Church is the framework for many activities for children, young people, adults and the elderly, both on weekdays and on weekends. The church space is bright and open and forms a fine setting for the parish's services, weddings, funerals and concerts. The parish house is also well visited during the week, and we are looking for a person who will contribute to ensuring that all users of the church receive a positive encounter with Brønderslev Parish.

We expect that you

• are approachable and service-minded and are prepared to support and work positively with the church’s parish council, priests, other staff and volunteers.
• are structured, have a sense of order and can work independently.
• have a practical/technical hand.
• can use IT and AV equipment at a user level.

We would like you to have knowledge of the church's life and practice – and reside in Brønderslev or the surrounding area.

Work tasks and areas of responsibility

As a church caretaker at Brønderslev Church and Parish House you can expect the following tasks:

• Cleaning, tidying up and maintenance of the church and the related premises.
• Participation in church ceremonies such as services, weddings, burials and cremations.
• Practical tasks and planning related to, for example, church lunches, concerts, parish events, confirmation classes and occasional events, etc., in close cooperation with the church's other staff and volunteers.

The performance of the tasks is carried out in collaboration with the two other church caretakers.

Terms of employment

The appointment is for 20 hours per week with start on 1 December or by agreement.

The appointment is with Brønderslev Parish Council.

The appointment is covered by the Collective Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and OAO-S and the Collective Agreement between the Ministry of Church and Denmark’s Church Caretaker Association and the corresponding protocol for church caretakers or gravediggers. Current civil servant employed church caretakers have the right to retain their civil servant status upon direct transfer. If so, the position must be classified.

It is a condition that the mandatory 5 weeks of training for church caretakers is completed within 2 years after the start of employment.

The annual salary is agreed within the range of 324,667.00 DKK – 408,841.00 DKK (current currency). The point of attachment is 324,667.00 DKK (current currency - for a full-time position).

There is a standby obligation to the position. The standby allowance amounts to 33,231.00 DKK per year (current currency).

OK allowance of 1,401.00 DKK (current currency) per year.

Note: the stated amounts are for a full-time position. Salary, OK allowance and standby allowance are prorated in accordance with the position's employment fraction. An agreement on placement in the salary range is made between the parish council and the Danish Church Caretaker Association.

There is a standby obligation to the position (evening work, holidays and Saturday/Sunday).

About Brønderslev Church and Parish House

In the heart of Vendsyssel, close to forest, beach and highway, you will find Brønderslev. It is no coincidence that Brønderslev is called “the heart of Vendsyssel.” The town with its approximately 13,000 inhabitants is in a constantly pulsing development both culturally, industrially and churchly.

Good schools, a high school, Nordjyllands Idrætshøjskole, active associations within trade, sport, music, FDF, scouting and other forms of culture aimed at all ages, as well as many grocery and specialty shops and only about a 20-minute drive to the large cities of Hjørring and Aalborg, make the parish a attractive place to live for both families with children and older citizens.

In Brønderslev town there are two churches, where activity is high throughout the week. Brønderslev Old Church from the Middle Ages and Brønderslev Church with the associated parish house, which in 2019 reopened after a major expansion and modernization, so that both church space and parish house appear top-modern, contemporary and flexible with many exciting possibilities. There is a priest’s office in the parish house.

Among other employees are four parish priests, a church and culture worker, an assistant for the church and culture worker, a church singer, two organists, a choir conductor, two sextons, including a daily manager for the church and parish house as well as a cemetery manager with 10 assistants at the cemetery.
