About the job

A full-time position as a clinical academic, molecular biologist at the Molecular Unit, Department of Pathology, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital, is available for occupation from 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

In the Molecular Unit, Department of Pathology, the main tasks are data interpretation and reporting as well as laboratory work. This includes, among other things, sequencing analyses (Sanger and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), using Applied Biosystems, Ion Torrent, Nanopore and PacBio), RT-PCR analyses, fragment analyses, array-based technologies (Affymetrix), methylation analyses, and FISH.

We are seeking a trained molecular biologist, cand.scient. in biology or biochemistry, human biology, biomedicine or similar, with demonstrated interest and knowledge in molecular biology and a desire to work with clinical diagnostics in a paraclinical department. Furthermore, it would be a great advantage if the applicant has experience with bioinformatic work on both large and small datasets and/or setting up analysis pipelines.

The work for the future employee will after thorough training consist of practical laboratory work as well as extensive data processing and interpretation of NGS data, which are used to issue analysis results that influence patients' diagnosis, risk assessment and/or targeted/biological treatment choice (personalized medicine). Therefore, experience with annotation (somatic variant classification) is an advantage.

In addition there will be tasks in the form of guidance and teaching of bioanalysts and doctors within the molecular biological field. The department is research-active, and there will be opportunities to participate in/undertake projects and write articles.

Applicants with combined practical and theoretical experience within the described techniques and bioinformatics, as well as a desire for further education as a specialist in molecular pathology, will be preferred. Knowledge of pathology/molecular diagnostics is an advantage.

You will be part of the molecular team, where we place high value on collegial collaboration, helpfulness and knowledge sharing, including daily sparring, weekly Clinical Academic team meetings and weekly meetings with varied presentations for all professional groups in the molecular group.

The department employs 45 doctors, 1 professor, 5 molecular biologists, 80 bioanalysts, 4 secretaries, 3 porters, as well as 30 PhD/post docs/administrative AC staff/student helpers. The department management consists of a chief physician and a chief bioanalyst. In addition, the department has a management team consisting of the department management, two area heads for physicians, the education-responsible chief physician, four department bioanalysts, head of the molecular unit, and area head for porters.

Salary and employment terms according to the collective agreement. The position is not associated with on-call duties.

Further information about the position can be obtained by contacting: Head of the Molecular Unit, Department of Pathology, professor, MD, PhD Estrid Høgdall, tel. 3868 9132 / 2681 0087.

Application is sent online via the link on this page. Documentation of qualifications and education, CV and any list of scientific publications should be attached to the application.

Application deadline October 30, 2026. Interviews will be held on an ongoing basis with appointment as soon as possible thereafter.
