About the job

Danish laws are available to everyone: they are published in the Official Gazette. How the courts apply them is not. Court decisions show how the law is interpreted and applied, yet for a large share of the cases from the higher courts, the decision is not publicly available.

OpenLaw works to change that. We are now looking for an intern who is good at writing and explaining. You might come from journalism or communication, but just as well from law, the social sciences or the humanities. As an intern you help us tell people about our work and raise the funds it needs.

About OpenLaw

OpenLaw is a non-profit association founded in 2025. Our application at openlaw.dk gives an overview of the cases from the higher courts. We monitor the court schedules of the Supreme Court, the Eastern and Western High Courts and the Maritime and Commercial High Court, and the application now covers more than 16,000 cases. If you need a copy of a specific decision, you can use our request function, and we obtain the decision and make it available to every other user. Everything is free and without login. Our partners include Danske Advokater, Spinnaker Nordic, Juris and JURAI.

What you will do

The internship has two sides: communication and fundraising.

Communication

  • Find the stories in the court schedules and write short, precise pieces about the important cases pending before the higher courts
  • Write and publish content on LinkedIn, on openlaw.dk and in our newsletter
  • Keep in touch with journalists and specialist media covering the courts, and pitch stories to them

Fundraising

  • Map the foundations and grant programmes that support the rule of law, openness and public outreach, and keep track of deadlines
  • Write funding applications with the board, from first draft to final application
  • Help recruit new members and partners

On top of that come other tasks along the way, because we are a small association and the work runs together.

What you bring

  • You write clearly and precisely and can adjust your language to the reader, whether that is a foundation, a journalist or someone on LinkedIn
  • You can find the story in a dry document and tell it so that people who are not lawyers understand it, without getting it wrong
  • You are happy to contact people you do not know, and you always check before anything is published
  • You use AI tools where they help, and you know when they do not
  • You are curious about how the courts work and want to learn how an association gets funded

You do not need to know law, and fundraising experience is not a requirement.

A note on language: most of our audience and most Danish foundations work in Danish, so much of the work is in Danish. Written Danish is a clear advantage. If Danish is not your strongest language, tell us what you would bring in English.

What you get

  • What you write gets published, and the applications you help write get sent
  • An ongoing overview of the cases from the higher courts to find stories in
  • Hands-on experience with both communication and fundraising, two fields you rarely learn in the same internship
  • Close sparring with the board and insight into how a new association is built

The practical side

The internship must be a formal part of your education, typically a project-oriented placement or an internship semester, and we fit the scope to your programme, whether it is 15 or 30 ECTS. We are aiming for the spring semester 2027, starting 1 February, with a deadline of 1 November 2026, but we review applications on a rolling basis and are glad to hear from you if you can start sooner. The internship is unpaid. You work from Copenhagen with flexible hours, and part of the work can be done from home.

How to apply

Answer the application questions and send a link to something you have written. We read everything, so be concrete: one real example beats five general ones.
