About the job

Would you like to help strengthen the police's preventive efforts and dialogue with religious congregations while also working at the intersection of analysis, professional development and practice? We are seeking a consultant, police, for the Prevention Secretariat, who can contribute to developing and qualifying Copenhagen Police's efforts and collaboration with religious communities.

About the position

As Copenhagen Police's professional key person on the religious community area, you will play a central role in developing, coordinating and supporting the police district's overall effort and collaboration with religious communities and religious environments.

The position has a clear focus on prevention, dialogue and knowledge. You will help build and maintain trusting relationships between the police and the religious communities, while ensuring that knowledge from the dialogue and relevant societal developments are translated into police practice. This requires you to connect relationship-building and specialized knowledge with analysis, advising and concrete preventive and safety-promoting actions.

You will work closely with a colleague in the religious community area, and together you will develop and manage the tasks. You will also be part of the Prevention Secretariat's interdisciplinary environment, where police- and academic competencies are brought into play across the preventive efforts.

In addition, you will have broad collaboration with other colleagues internally in the police, municipalities, PET and other authorities as well as civil society actors and religious communities. The position is closely linked to the police district's other preventive efforts, including work on antisemitism and hate crimes, radicalization and other relevant professional areas.

The position requires that you can both build long-term relationships and work independently, analytically and direction-setting in a complex area with significant public and political attention.

Your primary tasks will include

  • Maintain and develop ongoing contact and dialogue with religious communities, religious organizations and other relevant partners.
  • Coordinate and support a systematic and coherent approach to the police district's dialogue and cooperation with religious communities, including ensuring relevant knowledge sharing and professional follow-up.
  • Collect and analyze knowledge about national and international events and development trends that may affect local conditions and the police's task solving.
  • Prepare situation pictures, professional notes and decision papers on current developments and issues in the area.
  • Advise leaders, colleagues and operational sections on religious communities, religious environments and other matters relevant to the police's preventive and operational task solving.
  • Take initiative to develop and qualify the police's collaboration with religious communities and contribute to a more systematic, knowledge-based and proactive effort in the area.
  • Engage in cross-cutting collaboration with municipalities, PET, other authorities, civil society organizations and other partners on preventive and safety-promoting efforts.
  • Develop and implement training, presentations and other competency development for Copenhagen Police employees.
  • Represent Copenhagen Police in relevant networks, working groups, meetings, conferences and events with national and international partners.

About you

You have a police professional education (police basic training) and specialized knowledge and competencies in the area. The position assumes that you have relevant experience within religious communities, dialogue work, prevention or related areas. Your police background can advantageously be supplemented with other relevant education or competency development.

The position is at consultant level and assumes that you can work independently and structured with specialized tasks. You take responsibility for seeking relevant knowledge, identifying development needs and driving tasks forward, while also considering the coherence with the police district's other preventive efforts.

You are motivated by working long-term with relationships and complex problems and understand that a trusting collaboration with religious communities requires professional curiosity, credibility and the ability to navigate professionally between different interests and perspectives.

It is also important that you

  • have analytical competencies and can collect, assess and translate complex knowledge into concrete police practice,
  • are interested in and preferably have experience with religious communities, religious environments, dialogue work and/or crime prevention efforts,
  • have strong relationship, communication and dissemination skills,
  • can create and maintain trusting relationships with actors with different perspectives and interests,
  • have the desire and ability to represent Copenhagen Police externally,
  • have organizational and political understanding and can navigate the interaction between police, authorities, civil society and religious communities,
  • see ongoing competence development and specialization as a natural part of the position.

About the Prevention Secretariat

The Prevention Secretariat carries out a guiding, coordinating and executing role in the district's crime prevention work, as a central section in Copenhagen Police's Prevention Department.

The Prevention Secretariat functions as a professional knowledge center that drives several larger prevention initiatives. Common to the initiatives is that we work knowledge-based and in close collaboration with leaders and staff across Copenhagen Police and have binding collaborations with other police districts, authorities and private actors.

The Prevention Secretariat consists of one manager and 12 staff with police- or academic backgrounds. We strive for high professionalism, quality in task solving, and a holistic understanding of prevention.

It is supported by a strong professional environment with collegial sparring, feedback and reflection as well as ongoing competence development. We do this because complex societal challenges require specialized knowledge and continuous development.

Salary and terms of employment

You will be placed as a consultant, police, according to the classification agreement at step 44. Any local allowances are closed according to applicable rules.

You will be stationed for now in Copenhagen Police with tentative service in the Prevention Secretariat, Police Headquarters, Polititorvet, 1567 Copenhagen V.

You must be able to obtain security clearance for the required security level of the position. You may be required to perform functions where clearance to a higher classification is necessary.

Employment in the police and the public prosecutor's office is contingent on maintaining the necessary security clearance at all times.

The service is performed both in civil and uniform, and is primarily daytime. However, work in the afternoons, evenings and weekends must be anticipated, including in connection with dialogue and activities with religious communities. You will also be part of the operational tasks that LPE handles, including MIK and dialog division.
