About the job

Can you create progress in a broad portfolio of tasks where legal considerations, political agendas and deadlines must come together in a higher unity? Do you thrive with staff management and can you bring different professional backgrounds into play to achieve goals? And do you have an eye for the value of cross-cutting collaboration, then you may be the one we are looking for as our new office head for Family Reunification.

Your new workplace

In the Ministry of Immigration and Integration, we deal with questions such as

  • Who may enter and stay in the country?
  • How do we ensure that foreigners contribute to and take part in society?
  • How do we ensure that people without legal residence leave the country?

These are important questions that all countries must address – and they are precisely our core tasks.

You can read more about our core tasks and our ministry here .

The office’s tasks

Family reunification is responsible for a number of different areas, where some cross the immigration area and therefore require general knowledge of the field, while others require specialist expertise.

The office is thus responsible for the rules in the Aliens Act on family reunification and permanent residence permits.

The office also has responsibility for a number of tasks concerning the rules for foreigners who stay in Greenland and the Faroe Islands, and the office is therefore organized with a North Atlantic Affairs Unit that mainly handles these tasks.

The office is also responsible for the visa area, which includes both national rules and EU regulatory provisions in this area. The area therefore requires close cooperation with the Danish Immigration Service and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Your role as office head

As office head you will have the overall responsibility for a thematically broad and complex portfolio of tasks in the immigration area. Most of the time you will contribute to the breadth of task solutions, but you must also be able to go into depth with a specific issue when required.

You will have staff responsibility for about 12 employees, including a unit head and a deputy head. The group includes different professional backgrounds and profiles, the majority have an academic educational background, but there are also several experienced clerical staff in the office.

Your primary tasks will be to

  • Ensure qualified political support and contribute to a solid basis for decisions and priorities
  • Set direction and prioritise the office’s tasks in light of the political agenda
  • Ensure high legal quality in the office’s case processing and assessments, including in complex and principled cases
  • Create overview and coherence across the office’s broad portfolio of tasks and ensure progress in both ongoing tasks and larger cases
  • Lead and develop the office’s employees and leaders with a focus on clear direction, professional quality and good framework for task execution
  • Support employees’ well-being in the workplace
  • Ensure cross-cutting collaboration across the entire ministry’s group, with other ministries and authorities on cases requiring coordination and joint solutions.

About you

You are educated as a cand.jur. with solid analytical competencies and a very high level of expertise. Knowledge of the immigration area is an advantage, but not a prerequisite. You have experience with people management, preferably from the state or another public organization.

We imagine you will succeed in the position if you can recognise yourself in the following profile:

  • You can set direction for the office’s tasks, prioritise with sound judgment and secure results through others. You have an eye for both each employee’s development and can create coherence in your leadership team’s combined task solutions and priorities.
  • You understand working in a politically governed organisation and have a well-developed work capacity, so you can navigate securely in the crossfire between politics, law and administration. You have political acumen and understanding of the importance of timing, precision and timeliness in serving the board and the political level. You can translate complex problems into clear professional assessments and solid decision bases.
  • You have well-developed judgment. You can balance professional considerations with political priorities and organizational needs and create overview and progress in a changing everyday life – also when tasks are complex and deadlines tight.
  • You are a clear and collaborative leader, who creates followership around common goals and priorities. You manage to bring different professional backgrounds and competencies into play and support cross-cutting collaborations with relevant stakeholders to achieve the office’s tasks and the political priorities.

You are a leader with a focus on the common

In the Ministry of Immigration and Integration we work from a shared leadership framework that creates direction and coherence in our leadership practice across the group. We lead based on four themes: Leading the task, leading across, leading learning and leading people.

Our leadership is built on clear direction and prioritisation, professionalism, knowledge sharing and collaboration across, as well as a continuous ambition to develop our staff – both professionally and personally.

It is therefore important that you can see yourself in our four leadership themes. You have a sense of the whole, take responsibility for common solutions and are aware of how you affect collaboration, motivation and well-being – both in your own agency and in our entire group.
