About the job
Krohavens Aflastning i Tarp is currently seeking staff for our lovely children and adolescents. The target group spans a wide range, and we are therefore not bound to any single professional group. So if you are a pedagogue, pedagogical assistant, social- and health helper, or assistant, then it might be you we are looking for.
We are looking for employees for permanent positions in our green and red teams as well as a night shift of 37 hours; if you want fewer hours this can be accommodated. Start as soon as possible.
Who are we?
Krohavens respite care is a special pedagogical offering for children and young people with special needs aged 0-23 years. We have space for 12 children at a time with lasting reduced physical and/or mental functional abilities. This also means that needs vary widely and are often individual. We are one integrated department distributed in 3 smaller departments under the same roof. This means that each department contains 4 children and that the staff as a rule reports to the same department each time.
Respite care is the child’s “second home.”
The daily routine is planned based on the children’s needs and resources. We help the children up in the morning and get them ready so they can travel by bus to their day care offerings.
When the children return from day care, the routine is often like in their own home. Dinner must be served, the children must shower, and there is a cozy time before bedtime.
On weekends there are often fewer excursions outside the home to the extent the children can manage. Therefore it’s a plus if you have a driving licence.
Our core task
Respite care is one of 9 departments in the Special Center. We all work from a common core task relating to our children and youths which includes the following:
“Our core task is development for the individual child and the individual young person, aimed at strengthening the child’s and the young person’s
own perception, independence and equality in communities. We solve the core task in an environment characterized by presence, safety and in close cooperation with the family. We focus on supporting networks and new lasting relationships for the child and the young person.”
We want you to
- Can create safety, presence and form relationships with our children/young people
- Can strengthen the child’s self-perception and independence
- Have a positive attitude and passion for the area
- Have experience or knowledge of the target group
- Can work quietly and read situations
- Can handle outwardly agitated behavior
- Can reflect on one’s own and others’ practice
- Can manage many balls in the air
- Have good knowledge of transfers
- Are not easily scared by children with epileptic seizures
Target group and tasks in the Green team
Since the children in our green department mostly have multiple disabilities, there are many caregiving and medical tasks. Some of the children are nonverbal and need self-regulation, which places high demands on staff’s senses and ability to read body language. We do not expect you to know all our tasks, but you should have a desire to learn them.
Your tasks include among other things
- Providing tube feeding and medication
- Taking care of personal care and hygiene
- Using nonverbal communication tools
- Working with low/high arousal
- Working with sensory-based activities
- Parent and relative cooperation
- Key worker role
- Domestic tasks such as preparing rooms, changing bed linen, laundry, tidying etc.
Target group and tasks in the Red team
Because the children in our red department primarily have autism and cognitive functioning comparable to a 3-6-year-old, it is important to follow structure plans and use assistive tools such as pictograms, time timers, Sign Supported Danish, etc. Some children are nonverbal and need self-regulation, which places great demands on staff’s senses and ability to read body language. We do not expect you to know all our tasks, but you should have a desire to learn them.
Your tasks include among other things
- Help to help themselves
- Focus on assessment of individual needs
- Take care of personal care and hygiene
- Use nonverbal communication tools
- Work with low/high arousal
- Work with sensory-based activities
- Parent and relative cooperation
- Key worker role
- Domestic tasks such as preparing rooms, changing bed linen, laundry, tidying etc.
Target group and tasks for night shift
As a waking night shift you and your colleague are responsible for the 12 sleeping children/young people. You start between 21:30-22:00 and perform the fixed night shift tasks. In addition, there are 3 checks per child during the night. Some children require medication, need to be changed, have epileptic seizures, or need an adult because they cannot sleep or find calm.
When day shifts begin between 05:30-06:00, it is a shared task to wake the children, give them a good morning, and prepare them to go to their day care.
Practical information
As we are a 24-hour facility, you can expect to work mixed shifts, weekends and holidays. In respite care we work either every 2nd or every 3rd weekend. In this case, the night shift position is the one that works every 3rd weekend, with the other two positions working every 2nd weekend.
We work from a “preference-based” shift planning system, which means you have the possibility to indicate how you want a shift plan to look. The finished result depends on the children’s needs. You plan your summer and Christmas holidays as an employee in collaboration with your colleagues.
It is important that you note in your application which/which positions you are applying for.
