About the job

Are you a doctor with solid experience in internal medicine from clinical practice and research experience, and with an interest in medicines and the role of health authorities? Are you motivated to translate professional knowledge into independent assessments that have significance for patients across Denmark and Europe? Then you could be the doctor we are looking for at the Danish Medicines Agency.

At our organization you work at the intersection between clinic, research and authority work. Together with national and European experts you assess the effectiveness and safety of new medicines and contribute to decisions that matter for the health service and patients across borders.

About us

The Danish Medicines Agency is Denmark's national authority for the approval and supervision of medicines, medical devices and clinical trials. We are about 650 employees at Islands Brygge in Copenhagen. We collaborate daily with the other European drug agencies and the European Medicines Agency (EMA). We participate in various professional working groups, and Denmark has members in all the European medicines committees.

The position is placed in the Section for Human Medicines where we currently are 23 doctors with backgrounds in different specialties and/or industry, 3 biostatisticians, a veterinarian and a pharmacist. Your closest colleagues will be doctors, pharmacists and statisticians. We assess and approve new medicines and indications and monitor them throughout their life cycle. Denmark is already responsible for many medicines, and we see a marked development with new, innovative treatments that require solid clinical and scientific expertise to assess.

Your everyday life with us

As a doctor at the Danish Medicines Agency you work with professional assessments that form the basis for authority decisions on medicines. You analyze clinical trial data and assess whether new medicines have demonstrated effect, an acceptable safety profile and a relevant place in treatment.

You will among other things

  • Assess the documentation behind new medicines for approval and new uses of existing medicines.
  • Contribute to regulatory assessments of medicines' effect, safety and use.
  • Prepare professional recommendations and decision bases for national and European authority processes.
  • Perform risk assessments in connection with shortage situations and special supply challenges, including in an emergency perspective.
  • Answer complex medicine-related questions from citizens, health professionals, the press and political stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with European medicines authorities and EMA on assessment of new medicines.

The position gives you the opportunity to work with medicines long before they reach clinical practice and contribute to decisions that affect many patients at once.

Your education, experience and personal qualifications

  • You are a specialist in internal medicine or a physician with equally solid and broad clinical experience in internal medicine.
  • You have an interest in medicines and in translating clinical knowledge into professional assessments.
  • It is advantageous if you have research experience, preferably a Ph.D.
  • You have an interest and flair for evaluating clinical research and scientific documentation.
  • You thrive with complex issues that require both professional depth and pragmatic solutions.
  • You are motivated by interdisciplinary collaboration and an international work environment.
  • You master English at a high level both verbally and in writing.
  • You can combine and balance the detail-oriented with the pragmatic.
  • You have good collaboration skills, and can work purposefully, keep an overview and meet deadlines.

We offer

A meaningful authority job where you translate clinical experience and scientific insight into professional assessments that support safe and well-documented treatment options for patients.

You will get

  • Opportunity to influence the assessment of new medicines at national and European levels.
  • A working life at the crossroads of clinic, research, regulation and health policy.
  • Insight into the latest treatments and technologies, often several years before they become part of clinical practice.
  • Close collaboration with highly specialized colleagues, including doctors, pharmacists, statisticians and other experts.
  • An international everyday life with strong professional relationships to EMA and other European medicines authorities.
  • Good opportunities for competency development within regulatory science, medicine evaluation and authority work.
  • A job in Copenhagen, with flexible work arrangements, and where you can largely plan your own day. Our working climate is informal and filled with engagement, humor and mutual respect.

You will become part of an organization with high professional integrity, where independence, quality and social responsibility are central values.

About the employment

You will be employed as a department physician in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Young Doctors or another relevant professional organization.

At the Danish Medicines Agency we make decisions in authority cases, and therefore it is important for us that our impartiality cannot be questioned. Therefore it is a prerequisite for employment at the Danish Medicines Agency that you do not own shares, interests, stakes or similar in a medicines- and/or medical company. If you have shares in a medicines- and/or medical company, they must be divested.
