About the job
A 1-year position as a resident physician at the Department of Joint and Bone Surgery is available for immediate filling.
Are you contemplating a career in orthopaedic surgery, in need of subspecialty training, and would you like to explore the highly specialized part of the specialty or start orthopaedic research – then we have a great offer for you.
About us
The Department of Joint and Bone Surgery is part of the HovedOrtoCenter at Rigshospitalet. We have 130 staff in the department, including 45 doctors. The department is divided into five sections: Tumor and Alloplasty Section, Trauma Section, Spine Section, Pediatric Section, and Hand Section. These sections handle all highly specialized functions in relation to the Danish Health Authority's specialty plan for orthopaedic surgery.
Your everyday life
You will be attached to the Tumor and Alloplasty Section on weekdays and handle tasks in the outpatient clinic, operating room, and ward rounds. The position is generally without on-call duties. The department has three professors, and there is thus a good opportunity to conduct research during the employment. In addition, there will be good opportunities to assist with major operations and, under supervision, perform smaller procedures.
Your responsibilities
- Ward-based medical duties, including prescribing medications, interpreting test results and radiographs, participating in planning of examination pathways, discharge, transfer, prescription writing, discharge summaries, etc.
- Ward rounds. The resident will be required to participate here.
- Operative assistance. The resident will participate as an operating assistant in surgeries and is expected, under supervision, to acquire skills to perform smaller procedures.
- Outpatient activities. After training, the resident will have independent outpatient activity in the tumor outpatient clinic
- Conference participation. The resident is expected to participate in the Tumor Section's daily functions, including MDT conferences
- Teaching. The resident is expected to participate in the clinic's pregraduate teaching
We expect you to have authorization as a physician and permission to practice independently as a physician. In addition, it is expected that you possess good collaboration skills.
Further information about the position can be obtained by contacting the section head, consultant Allan Villadsen, phone: 3545 6804, email: [email protected]
Application procedure
You apply for the position by submitting your application, CV and relevant training documents via the link in the advertisement.
The application deadline is no later than Oct 19, 2026, and interviews will be held during week 43.
Terms of employment
Salary and terms of employment follow the collective agreement for junior doctors concluded between the Regionernes Lønnings- og Takstnævn and the Association of Young Doctors.
Authorized health personnel with patient contact who do not have Danish education must, upon employment in the Capital Region of Denmark, have passed a Danish language test (Danish education 3, corresponding to the 9th grade final exam) or at minimum be able to pass the test within 1 year after employment, or have obtained equivalent language skills in Danish by other means. The Danish language test must be passed with the same grade requirements as the National Board of Health requires for health personnel from non-EU countries for them to obtain Danish authorization.
Application deadline: Oct 19, 2026
