About the job
Impact Fund Denmark · Investments · Copenhagen
Impact Fund Denmark is developing new ways to invest in businesses with links to Denmark and activities in developing and emerging markets. We are looking for a Managing Director who can turn these mandates into a functioning investment platform, build the team behind it and lead the continued development of our venture activities.
The role combines direct investment responsibility with business development and team leadership. You will need to make sound decisions in an area where the operating model is still being built.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, you will set the direction for the new team and work closely with colleagues across our existing venture and investment activities. You will build a credible pipeline and ensure that opportunities move through IFDK’s investment decision process with appropriate rigour.
- Build and lead a team of investment professionals, with clear priorities and standards for investment work.
- Develop relationships with Danish businesses, founders, investors, funds and business associations to identify relevant opportunities.
- Assess and advance direct investments, balancing commercial potential, financial risk and intended impact.
- Shape investment processes that fit the size and risk of each opportunity while meeting IFDK’s requirements for documentation and governance.
- Work with Sustainability & Impact, Legal, Risk and Operations to bring the new instruments into day-to-day use.
- Help promising businesses become ready for investment, including by identifying where technical assistance or specialist support can make a difference.
- Represent IFDK externally and explain our investment approach to businesses and partners.
YOUR FIRST YEAR
- A capable team and a practical way of working with IFDK’s existing investment organisation are in place.
- Relevant partners understand when and how to engage with the new instruments.
- The team has built and assessed a credible pipeline, with investment decisions supported by clear commercial and impact reasoning.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
This is what we need to see
- Demonstrable experience making or leading direct investments, including assessing opportunities and taking them through an investment decision process.
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to distinguish a promising business from an investable case.
- The ability to build relationships with Danish businesses and navigate the Danish business and investment ecosystem.
- Experience and credibility to lead investment professionals, work with senior peers and represent IFDK externally.
- A practical approach to building a team, a pipeline and a new area of activity.
- Strong written and spoken English.
These are advantages, not requirements: experience with venture or early-stage investing, venture building, technical assistance, development finance or investments in developing and emerging markets. Danish language skills would also be an advantage.
We do not expect one person to have worked in every part of this landscape. We do expect evidence of investment judgement, leadership and the ability to build something that works.
WHERE THE ROLE SITS
You will be based in Copenhagen and report to the Chief Investment Officer. The role works across the new instruments and existing venture activities, in close collaboration with other investment teams and specialist functions.
WHY JOIN US
You will have the opportunity to shape a new investment platform within an established organisation. The work calls for commercial discipline and offers the chance to support businesses whose growth can create measurable impact.
