About the job

Would you like to help take care of the environment while taking part in the exciting development Nordfyns Municipality is in the middle of? Do you thrive in the regulatory role and in collaborating across with many different actors at the same time? Then you have the opportunity to become part of the wastewater group in Nordfyns Municipality!

A daily life with professionalism and authority

In Nordfyns Municipality we see many exciting tasks in the wastewater field. Therefore, we are seeking a new, professionally grounded colleague for the wastewater group, where you will work with various wastewater-technical challenges. You will especially need to focus on preparing discharge permits.

You will become part of a professionally strong team that works with everything from wastewater planning and climate adaptation to regulatory processing and collaboration with the utility.

What your upcoming workday might look like

You clock in at 8:00 a.m. and start the day by getting an overview of your cases. You work on a discharge permit and assess how the project affects the water environment.

During the day you collaborate with colleagues and are in dialogue with a company about a concrete solution. You may also attend meetings on urban development projects where wastewater management and climate adaptation must be considered from the start.

Some days allow for professional deepening, while others are characterized by collaboration and dialogue. What ties the tasks together is that you help secure good solutions for both the environment and development in Nordfyns Municipality.

More about the content of the position

The position is placed in the wastewater group in Team Environment. You will among other things work with:

  • preparation of wastewater licenses with a particular focus on discharge licenses for rain and wastewater, including professional assessments of the impact on the water environment, nature and recipients
  • regulatory processing in the wastewater area, including licenses, orders, hearings and supervision
  • preparation of amendments to the wastewater plan for urban development projects
  • environmental screenings and assessments under the Environmental Assessment Act
  • collaboration and dialogue with consultants, citizens, the utility and companies
  • political case presentations and professional briefs to committees and management

The tasks require that you can translate technical and environmental professional assessments into regulatory decisions with high professional quality.

Although discharge licenses will become a central part of your tasks, you will also have the opportunity to work with other tasks within the wastewater field. We tailor tasks as much as possible to your competencies and interests.

We expect from you that you

  • have strong professional insight into the wastewater field
  • have a strong desire to continue learning and developing within the wastewater field
  • have a relevant education — for example as an engineer, environmental technologist, biologist or similar
  • have knowledge of and interest in water environment, recipients and wastewater-technical issues
  • have worked with the Environmental Protection Act, the wastewater regulation and/or other relevant environmental legislation
  • thrive in the role of regulator and preferably have experience working in a politically governed organization
  • communicate clearly and professionally with citizens and companies
  • have good IT understanding
  • work in a structured and collaborative manner

The most important thing is that you have professional ballast and a desire to use it.

We also attach importance to community, professional sparring and good collaboration – both in the department and across the organization. In the wastewater group we work particularly closely with the planning department, the building department and the environmental, nature and river teams on nature protection, urban development and climate adaptation tasks.

Who will your colleagues be?

We are about 20 colleagues with high professionalism and great willingness to help.

We spar a lot with each other, cover for one another and use our different competencies. There is room here to nerd about legislation, discuss professional dilemmas and share knowledge across disciplines.

Some days the office is so quiet that you can almost hear the legislation creak. Other days the office buzzes with sparring, good laughs and professional discussions.

We have our own “earache plant,” which has oddly become a shared project. And occasionally we have a puzzle lying around that we hope you will help us with during breaks when there is a need to “shake the head.”

We take our tasks seriously. But we also think it should be pleasant to go to work.

What do colleagues say about your leader?

If you ask us, he is first and foremost a person with a heart in the right place. He is easy to talk to, always ready with a smile and genuinely interested in how we are doing.

We know that he backs us up, and that gives a great sense of security in daily life. And he can be a bit distracted. A conversation with him occasionally takes a few interesting detours along the way.

More than just a job?

  • Opportunity for home office – typically 1-2 days a week
  • Flexible working hours
  • A good pension scheme
  • 6th week of vacation
  • Health scheme
  • Good opportunities for further education
  • Delicious lunch arrangement prepared by Henriette for us
  • A workplace with high professionalism and high psychological safety
