About the job

The word municipality means community, and strong communities are essential for the cohesion of local society. We are one of the larger municipalities in Denmark, have a sound economy, and are a municipality in development. We have high ambitions, are happy to lead and dare to try new paths.

We offer a chief municipal director position with responsibility for both a municipality and an administration that is well-run and where the basic structure is sound. We are a development-oriented municipality that sees opportunities rather than limitations. In recent years we have grown by about 10,000 new residents and lots of new job opportunities.

It is a growth we are proud of and which now also gives us a diversity among residents that places demands on everything from day care centers and schools to health services and nursing homes. At the same time we are also in a period of reform, where national politicians in Christiansborg have started many things, which we are already well on the way to turning into reality for our citizens.

We offer a top leadership position, in which over the years we have consciously worked on our way of collaborating. This applies to both our politicians and our staff in the municipality. We want to work with each other, and we understand that relationships create organizations. We collaborate across boundaries and are known for always finding common solutions. We work value-based and work every day for Humanity and a positive outlook on life; Engagement; Professionalism; and Holism. That leaves us with an organization characterized by a high degree of local responsibility and a strong desire for collaboration.

In communities we are strongest

”We need a municipal director who with good leadership brings themselves to eye level and with a strong focus on relationships across the board creates good frames for joint success. We also want a municipal director who is attentive to the entire Council and comes with a strong love for local democracy and who will create real results in terms of more and stronger communities in our municipality.”, says Mayor Michael Ziegler.

As Chief Municipal Director you will lead three directorates: Children and Youth, Adults, and City and Culture. In addition to the three directors you will have three managers reporting into the Centre for Council and Administration as well as the Centre for Finance and Analytics. There are approximately 4,800 employees in the municipality and about 60,500 residents. As Chief Municipal Director you will serve the Council and the Finance Committee. In addition you will become chair of the municipality's main committee, which leads a well-functioning MED-organization.

About you

You have executive experience from a larger public citizen-facing organization and in your career you have at minimum had managerial experience from a municipality. You have for several years served politicians and demonstrated great ability in negotiation processes, budget processes and reform implementation. You have a solid understanding of organizations and probably a formal leadership education.

Our values are the common foundation and prerequisite for leading the organization. We expect you to naturally live them in everyday life and encourage others to do the same. In addition, integrity is crucial for us, which means that you do what you say and say what you do – even when it is difficult. Integrity also means that you keep calm when others fail or become frustrated. You master collaboration and have an eye for the whole. Finally, you are curious about and concerned with the needs of employees and citizens, and you possess strategic wisdom and input.
