Do you have music in your body? Are you passionate about creating music together with children and young people – and do you want to make a difference for students who need a special pedagogical approach? Then perhaps it is you we are looking for!

Center Classes at Højvangskolen are seeking a music-loving and engaged music teacher or musician who wants to lead our music instruction and help create musical communities for our students.

We offer a temporary position of 15-20 hours per week until the summer holidays. The position is to be filled as soon as possible or no later than December 1, 2026 and until June 30, 2027.

In Center Classes we have music education for all grade levels for students who are interested in music. We experience that music can do something quite special in meeting our students. Music can create joy, motivation, belonging, immersion and opportunities to succeed in ways other than traditional teaching. That means that in your music teaching you should have an eye for the individual child.

You should be willing to work with ensemble, singing, rhythms, instruments and individual music instruction – and ideally have ideas for how music can be developed further at the school.

We are seeking a music teacher who can combine their musical expertise with a clear and respectful pedagogical approach. You should be able to create teaching where students experience structure, predictability and clear frameworks, while there is room for creativity, curiosity and spontaneity.

We are a school focused on well-being, participation and mastery.

We expect that you

• are passionate about music and about making music together with children and young people
• have solid musical expertise – either as a trained music teacher, musician or through other relevant musical experience
• want to teach both students who are experienced and students who are completely new to the world of music
• can create exciting and varied music education with e.g. ensemble, singing, rhythms and instruments
• can adapt your music teaching to the different prerequisites and needs of the students
• can create clear and safe frameworks around the music lessons
• are curious about how music can be used to strengthen students' wellbeing, participation, community and mastery
• can work relationally and meet the students with recognition, clarity and humor
• can reflect on one's own practice and put your reflections into play
• can work from pedagogical goals and translate them into pedagogical actions
• can engage in a close and binding collaboration with your colleagues
• is flexible and has good teamwork skills.

We would like you to have professional ambitions for music, but also an understanding that it is not necessarily about creating perfect musical performances. For us it is largely about creating musical experiences, participation opportunities and successes for the individual student.

Employment

About the school

Højvangskolen is a well-functioning and attractive public school located in the southeastern part of Horsens with both town, countryside and fjord as nearest neighbors. Here are 830 fantastic students, of whom 94 attend the center classes and 120 engaged and competent staff, giving the school a volume where all competencies come into play.

Højvangskolen is an ambitious school where the staff has a high professional level and students and parents have a positive view of the school.

Center Classes are a municipal special offer for students from all over Horsens Municipality with challenges within ADHD and/or autism spectrum, as well as a number of less common developmental disorders. Center Classes cover the entire school journey from 0th to 10th grade.

Center Classes are located in immediate proximity to the main school and participate in spatial and partly pedagogical collaboration with it. Instruction is in accordance with the Folkeskole Act – and there is an opportunity to take exams in all subjects.

The sense of community is given extremely high priority at Højvangskolen among students, parents and staff.

All staff at the main school have an individual workstation – physically located near their house-team, and a flexitime agreement with opportunities for a dynamic and individually tailored placement of working hours. We are a school with a very strong collegial cohesion and good individual development opportunities.

The exact salary depends on the position as well as your experience and qualifications and may in addition to base pay consist of relevant, negotiated allowances.
