About the job
Nephrologist sought for the Nephrology ward, Medicine 1, Holbæk Hospital
Our beautiful hospital is now opening its doors to yet another nephrologist.
We offer a presence where people know and smile at each other across departments, the distances are small, the specialty is high, and work-life balance is prioritized.
If you would contribute to our good working environment, we hope you will take a closer look at this position.
What are we looking for?
In Medicine 1's nephrology ward, a position as chief physician/consultant is available for appointment on February 1, 2027 or by agreement.
We are seeking a nephrology specialist/consultant who understands our core task: to evaluate and treat our patients. This requires, among other things, high professional competence, empathy, openness, an overview, and organizational sense.
We are specifically looking for a physician who enjoys outpatient clinic work. Our nephrology outpatient clinic handles about 3-4 physician tracks daily, and we have about 1500 patients affiliated. We do not have a fixed nurse employed, so the physician conducts the consultations with the patient themselves. This provides a bit more time with the patient, but means that one can see somewhat fewer patients per day. We have transplanted patients, a large CKD group, some of whom are specific glomerulonephritis patients and special diagnoses, while others form a larger chronic patient group.
We also have a peritoneal dialysis outpatient clinic with currently about 45 patients, which has its own team.
Your work functions will be planned together, but in this position the expectation is that you will manage outpatient clinic with CKD patients 2-3 days per week.
Furthermore, we naturally seek a truly kind and skilled colleague who can join our good working environment in the department.
We have a research-responsible chief physician attached to Medicine 1, and if you have your own projects, it will make sense to establish a close research collaboration. To maintain the high professional standard, it is a requirement to stay updated on the latest research and knowledge within nephrology, and we try to help each other in the department by sharing knowledge from projects and conferences or other, so that everyone becomes wiser.
We are a flexible workplace, but also expect employees to help demonstrate flexibility when needs arise. In this way, everyone takes responsibility and this leads to increased job satisfaction for all parties.
We look ahead to the Health Reform, where we already work towards more streamlined patient pathways outside the hospital's usual frameworks. In Holbæk we work with home admissions, outpatient satellite clinics, virtual possibilities, and soon treatment of patients in care homes under hospital responsibility in acute illness periods.
Independence balanced with community is necessary to participate in our department. And engagement in our tasks and co-responsibility for how we work will need to be prioritized.
About us!
Nephrology Department
In-patient ward
The inpatient ward currently has 18 beds. Most of these patients have nephrology issues, but in addition some beds may accommodate patients with general internal medicine problems. Tasks include ward rounds, supervision of nephrology patients elsewhere in the hospital, phone calls from other departments or general practitioners, coordinating admissions and discharges in collaboration with a flow coordinator across the hospital.
Currently, there are plans to install 2 HD beds in the inpatient ward to integrate dialysis treatment with the admitted patient pathway and thus avoid transport to center dialysis outside the department.
Education is valued daily, and we have a midday conference where the day's patients are discussed in the ward-round group. Often we have 4-5 doctors daily for the mentioned functions.
Hemodialysis Ward (HD)
The department includes a local dialysis unit in Holbæk with 80 patients in center dialysis, 15 patients in self-care dialysis, and 2-5 patients in home-HD.
We also have a dialysis satellite in Slagelse with 54 patients in center dialysis, 14 patients in self-care dialysis and 2-5 patients in home-HD, and a dialysis satellite in Næstved with currently 22 patients in center-HD, with plans for expansion.
Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)
There are between 35 and 50 peritoneal dialysis patients, the number fluctuates due to high flow in and out. There are 2 nurses permanently attached to the PD outpatient clinic.
Medical staff
The nephrology inpatient staff consists of one chief physician, 6 consultants, of whom one is research-responsible for Medicine 1 and one is education-responsible for Medicine 1. In addition, four specialists and about 8 junior doctors at various training levels.
Medicine 1
Medicine 1 at Holbæk Hospital handles internal medicine sub-specialties in nephrology, endocrinology, and cardiology. The department has 68 beds, a number of specialty outpatient clinics, 3 hemodialysis units, and a peritoneal dialysis unit.
We have a close professional collaboration across the specialties. We meet daily across specialties, so informal advice and conversations are common. In addition, we have joint teaching sessions and morning conferences as well as shared on-call duties.
We have a strong research unit with professors attached and many active research projects both rooted in Holbæk and across the country.
Holbæk Hospital
Holbæk Hospital is a locally anchored acute hospital for the region's citizens. Our vision is to offer patients cohesive and relevant pathways with high patient-perceived quality.
We have a beautiful hospital, an older yellow brick building with modern extensions in respect for the whole. Plenty of natural light everywhere, and only 4 floors at most. The city and the fjord are just around the corner, creating a wonderful atmosphere around the hospital.
General information about Holbæk
Beautifully situated by the fjord. Holbæk has about 30,000 inhabitants. The hospital has 1,600 employees and is Holbæk’s largest employer. There is an active city life with culture and many shops and restaurants.
The distance from Copenhagen is 65 kilometers, and you drive against the traffic. Trains run every half hour, taking about 45 minutes, and from the station it is a 10-minute walk to the hospital.
