About the job
PET needs a secure and stable digital infrastructure to be able to solve its tasks. Behind it are network solutions that must function every day, while continually being developed to meet new needs and requirements. As a network specialist at PET you will take a central role in ensuring that the infrastructure works and evolves in line with PET's needs.
You will work with complex network and security solutions, automate what does not need to be manual, and help set the direction for the infrastructure PET will build on.
Work with networks in an environment with special requirements
You will become part of the Network Section, where we work with design, development, implementation and operation of networks, firewalls and other security solutions. These are solutions that many other systems and disciplines in PET rely on. You will work in a complex and technical environment with many critical systems and high demands for security and stability. Some will resemble what you know. Others will not. Our special task means that we also have solutions and technical challenges that you do not necessarily meet in a more traditional IT workplace.
As a network specialist you will be close to daily operations and the ongoing development. One day you can be deeply involved in troubleshooting a complex network solution and the next be involved in designing a new solution or automating a workflow that has previously required manual work. At other times it is about making the technical choices that help shape our infrastructure moving forward.
You will among other things
- work with modern network solutions based on the SDN mindset, including some you may never have seen before
- design, implement and further develop network solutions
- operate, troubleshoot and optimize the network infrastructure
- work with data center networks, access networks, firewalls, routing and network security
- use scripting and automation for among other things configuration, firewall rules and documentation
The solutions you help develop and operate will have significance far beyond your own team. When new solutions are developed or new needs arise elsewhere in PET, the infrastructure must keep pace. Therefore you will also collaborate with other IT professionals and disciplines across the organization.
We rely on each other to find the best solutions
You do not have to solve the complex tasks alone. You will become part of a team with high technical expertise, where we benefit from each other's experience and specialist knowledge. We brainstorm, share knowledge and help each other when a problem requires multiple perspectives.
We enjoy technical discussions and colleagues who challenge the way we usually do things. When you bring experience and specialist knowledge, we also expect you to bring it into play. In exchange you will gain colleagues who are happy to share their own knowledge and are ready to challenge you.
The tone is informal, and there should be space for humor and to enjoy working together, even though the tasks we work on are serious. We also place a high priority on your professional development. You develop through the tasks, sparring with other specialists and relevant skills development.
You have the experience and desire to keep learning
We imagine that you have worked with networks for a number of years and have built a solid technical understanding that enables you to go into depth when a problem requires it. You do not need to have worked with exactly the same solutions as us, but you must have a solid network professional foundation to draw on.
We emphasize that you
- have solid practical experience with networks and can navigate complex network environments
- understand the interplay between networks, infrastructure and security and can see the consequences of technical choices
- work methodically and persevere when a technical problem requires you to go one level deeper
- take responsibility for the quality of your work and understand the importance of proper documentation
- thrive on both working independently and solving problems with other specialists
Your educational background is less important than the experience and expertise you bring. Please mention any relevant certifications in networks or security in your application, but what matters most is what you can do in practice.
At the same time, your approach to your profession matters a lot to us. We are looking for a new colleague who is curious about new technologies and solutions, and who wants to go in depth and continue to learn and develop. You do not need to know all of our solutions in advance. The most important thing is that you are curious about what you do not know and want to learn new things together with your colleagues.
Have a daily routine that never becomes routine
It takes IT professionals to safeguard freedom, people and democracy, and PET is a large IT workplace. Here you will find Java developers, infrastructure specialists, network technicians, self-taught hackers, firewall specialists and many others with an IT background. Some have chosen PET to work with large and complex tasks. Others were drawn to the fact that we design many of our solutions ourselves from the ground up, develop and implement them.
Our colleagues rely on our work, and we are involved from start to finish. Finally, many of us have chosen the job to work on a cause larger than profit and billable hours. We have a higher purpose.
Our workplace is unlike any other. As a network specialist at PET you will become part of a daily life characterised by tasks that do not exist elsewhere, and every day offers new challenges that did not exist yesterday. We have a daily life that never becomes routine, and you can experience that too.
