About working at our health clinics

As a nurse you will be part of a strong multidisciplinary team consisting of other nurses, a public health nurse as well as affiliated psychologists, psychiatrist and doctors. In addition, health staff coordinate and collaborate with the asylum department's medically responsible physician, who monitors the overall health care operations in the asylum department. The framework for health services to asylum seekers is the Danish Red Cross asylum department's contract with the Danish Immigration Service.

We work based on the principle of participation and strive to ensure that each asylum seeker has access to health services as well as health promotion and disease prevention that support the individual in taking care of their own health.

Our work is under continuous development aimed at quality assuring the treatment offer to the center's residents and patient safety through planning and implementation of quality-improving initiatives. This particularly includes a continuous focus on improving and implementing clinical guidelines and procedures, ongoing strengthening of professional competencies and the professional approach in our treatment offerings.

Your tasks

Overall, you will help ensure that the health function's tasks are performed in accordance with good professional practice and with the duties otherwise set out in the legislation for health care activities. Your primary task will be medical intake interview and preparation of a health and vulnerability check for newly arrived adult asylum seekers. The purpose of the interview is to clarify physical health, including infectious diseases, particularly HIV, hepatitis and TB.

In addition, the interview includes assessment of mental health including consequences of torture. Further, any missing medication and serious treatable illness will be clarified.

In addition, the following tasks will be included in your portfolio, albeit to varying degrees:

  • Independent nursing consultations in an open clinic and scheduled conversations
  • Referral to treatment
  • Follow-up of care pathways
  • Coordination of the health care work around the individual resident, including collaboration with internal and external partners

  • Clinical nursing tasks – including e.g. medication management, wound care, swabs, and delegated examinations (e.g., urine strips, strep A).
  • Participation in internal emergency response
