About the job

Do you want to use your nursing professional skills in a framework where you work clinically across the board, cross-disciplinary and with a clear societal impact? We are seeking a nurse for the Health Unit in Jyderup (and the surrounding premises in Nykøbing, Kalundborg, Holbæk and Slagelse) as part of a strengthening of staffing. The augmentation is connected to increased focus on health and interventions for vulnerable detainees in light of the new sentencing reform.

The position is initially 37 hours per week and is desired to be filled on 1 December (or by agreement).

About the workplace

You will be employed by Danmarks Fængsler, Fængselskreds Øst (Kredskontor Øst), but your main workplace will be the health clinic in Jyderup Prison. The position also implies that during holidays and illness you will cover nursing duties at other premises in Holbæk, Slagelse, Kalundborg, Roskilde and Nykøbing Prison.

Jyderup Prison is a women’s prison.

The prison has 143 beds, of which 58 are detention beds, 45 are open beds, and 40 are closed beds. The prison receives women from across the country as a rule.

You will be responsible for the daily health care of the prisoners. The tasks can best be likened to the workflow in a medical practice, in that patients approach the nurse with issues they would otherwise have approached their own doctor with.

Work tasks include

  • Medication management
  • Care conversations
  • Chronic illness pathways
  • Substance abuse treatment (substitution)
  • Intake interviews
  • Assisting during medical consultations
  • Taking blood samples and EKG as well as lung function testing if needed.
  • Nurse consultations
  • Referral to medical consultations.

In the staffing augmentation there is also a strengthening of the professional effort for vulnerable detainees – e.g. through early detection, continuity, stable medication, focus on patient safety and close cross-disciplinary collaboration. Health operates from a rehabilitative approach, where we support the detainee’s self-care, coping and health competencies. This may include targeted guidance, motivational conversations and support to navigate treatment and appointments – also with a view to better sector transitions upon release.

Who are you?

You are a trained nurse and have several years of practical experience – preferably from general practice, emergency department/acute care or general practice. Psychiatry and substance abuse experience can be an advantage in the job, but is by no means a requirement.

It is crucial that you work in a very structured manner, that you are focused on making daily workflows efficient, and that you prioritise patient safety. A mature approach to internal and cross-disciplinary collaboration is also a prerequisite.

You are good at ensuring correct and timely documentation in patient records and understand the importance of thoroughness and patient-safe work. You have strong pedagogical abilities and can communicate confidently and clearly in guidance – both to patients and staff.

You are willing to invest in creating a good working environment with job satisfaction, well-being and good collaborative relations with your colleagues.

Experience from e.g. psychiatry, acute/somatics, substance abuse treatment, home care or social medical services is an advantage – but not a requirement.

We offer

  • A unique and socially important job with high professional relevance
  • Diverse nursing tasks and good opportunities for skill development
  • A strong cross-disciplinary environment and a collegial community
  • A weekend-free position with minimal work on public holidays
  • An workplace that prioritises professionalism, collaboration and integrity.

Salary and terms of employment

The position is a permanent role with an average weekly working time of 37 hours and is desired to be filled as soon as possible.

Employment and remuneration are in accordance with the applicable central agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Teachers’ Union and CO10, as well as the collective agreement for nurses in the state. Link to the agreement: Circular on the collective agreement for nurses in the state and the agreement on a new salary system for civil servants and similar employed nurses in the state | Rules, agreements and circulars

Working hours and duty roster

The working hours are distributed Monday to Friday from 7.30 to 17 – there are efforts to extend the presence of a nurse until 20:00 over time so that evening hours until 20:00 are expected.

You have weekends off and, as a general rule, holidays off. There may be overlaps of holidays that make us resort to opening a day on a holiday – this is more the exception than the rule. In vacations and during illness, courses and the like, you are predominantly self-sufficient with the health unit’s nurses covering for each other.

Geographical scope is Danmarks Fængsler.

Workplace is Jyderup Prison, Søbæksparken 136, 4450 Jyderup.

Apply for the position

The position is applied for electronically via the link “Søg stillingen”.

Application, CV and documentation of education as well as other relevant material must be received in the recruitment system no later than 18 October 2026.

Employment interviews are expected to be held on 22 October 2026.

If you are invited to interview, you must bring identification, e.g. passport or driver’s license, to the interview.

It is a requirement for employment that you, in connection with any interview, consent to Danmarks Fængsler obtaining and assessing information about you from the Central Criminal Register.

Danmarks Fængsler sees diversity as a strength and encourages all interested candidates regardless of personal background to apply.
