About the job

Do you want to make a difference for children and young people with special needs and help create opportunities for participation, independence and meaningful activities in the school day? Do you also want to become part of a strong professional community with good opportunities for sparring, development and specialisation?

Then you may be one of the occupational therapists we are seeking for two permanent positions and a maternity cover of 35-37 hours per week at the Children’s Center Copenhagen’s special school group.

About the job

The Children’s Center Copenhagen provides therapeutic support to 24 special schools in the City of Copenhagen. As an occupational therapist you will be permanently attached to one to three schools, where you work closely with the school staff to support students’ development, independence and participation in the school day.

You will be part of a small team with close daily collaboration and at the same time part of our overall therapy group of around 55 occupational therapists and physiotherapists. We meet regularly across teams for professional sparring, knowledge sharing and joint development. Working at the special schools involves various occupational therapy tasks, including:

Education-related occupational therapy

Here you primarily work in a consultative capacity with a focus on creating the best possible conditions for students’ participation in teaching, daily activities and the school’s social communities. Tasks may include

  • observation and activity analysis to identify opportunities and barriers to the student’s participation in the school day
  • assessment of sensory-motor, fine motor and oral motor functions as well as sensory processing when it affects the student’s participation
  • guidance to school staff on adapting activities, environments and learning spaces
  • supporting students’ independence in daily activities, e.g. eating, dressing and participation in teaching
  • initiation of targeted activities, shorter programs and group interventions
  • professional presentations, sparring and knowledge sharing with the school staff
  • prioritising tasks in close collaboration with your therapy colleagues and the school staff.

Individual training and rehabilitation

In addition to the educational-related work, we also handle individual maintenance training as mandated by the child’s law and rehabilitation under the Health Act. Here you work with assessment, goal setting, planning, implementation and evaluation of training efforts in close collaboration with the child, the family and other professionals around the child.

We emphasise that the interventions are based on the child’s own goals and meaningful activities, and that there is coherence between the training and the child’s everyday life.

We are looking for someone who

  • is a licensed occupational therapist and has experience with or strong interest in children and adolescents with special needs
  • has solid occupational therapy professional expertise and a desire to further develop your competencies
  • has knowledge of or interest in relevant occupational therapy assessment tools
  • can work independently, take initiative and prioritise your tasks
  • wants to work both consultatively and with individual training interventions
  • thrives in multidisciplinary collaboration and can actively apply your occupational therapy knowledge
  • is curious, flexible and eager to share knowledge and learn together with colleagues.

You do not need to have experience with all tasks or target groups. The most important is that you want to work with children and young people with special needs and contribute with your occupational therapy expertise.

We offer

  • a strong and engaged workplace community with around 55 occupational therapists and physiotherapists
  • a professional environment with opportunities for sparring, specialization and skill development
  • a trust-based workplace with great influence, involvement and shared responsibility
  • a varied workday with both independent tasks and close multidisciplinary collaboration
  • a focus on professional development, knowledge sharing and ongoing reflection on our practice
  • an introductory program during the first 14 days, where you visit other schools and follow experienced colleagues
  • a mentoring scheme where you are paired with an occupational therapy colleague to help you settle in well.

We are deliberately working to develop the quality of our therapeutic interventions. Among other things, we have developed our own flowchart for goal setting, where the child’s perspective, meaningful goals and systematic evaluation are central elements. We also continuously work on strengthening evidence-based practice.

Salary and terms of employment

The positions are 35-37 hours per week and expected to commence on January 4, 2027. Salary and terms follow the applicable collective agreement. We work with zero-time (nultid), which means that if you are employed for 37 hours, you may work 39.5 hours per week and earn extra days off in return. In connection with the hires, we will obtain child and criminal record checks as well as references.

We could tell you a lot more about our workplace and the exciting tasks ahead. We hope you are curious and want to become part of our community. You are very welcome to contact the head of therapy at the Children’s Center Copenhagen, André Greve, at +45 24 79 39 53. You can also read more about us here.
