About the job
Do you want to strengthen the community around Denmark's nature?
The Danish Society for Nature Conservation (DN) is seeking an organizational and volunteer consultant who will develop strong local communities and make volunteering easy, fun and meaningful.
Do you want to help create the best framework for people who engage in nature, the environment and climate? And do you also thrive in a small team where we succeed through close collaboration, sparring and shared development? Then maybe you are the one we are looking for.
Your role
As an organizational and volunteer consultant, you will be an important partner for our local branches and volunteers. You will advise, inspire and develop – and help DN's volunteers translate their ideas and engagement into strong local activities and communities.
You will have responsibility for your own local branches and become their sparring partner in everything from organization and board work to recruitment, volunteer engagement and development of local initiatives. You will also take on the role of editor of a shared newsletter AktivNyt for all volunteers in DN.
Be part of a closely collaborative team
You will become part of a small organizational consultant team with four organizational consultants, including a team leader, and two student assistants. We work together with the entire secretariat, and use the team to share knowledge, spar and apply our experiences to develop and reflect on our working methods in the community, which we each use in meetings with the volunteers. Therefore it is just as important that you are a good colleague and team player as you are a self-driven consultant who gains energy from meeting the local branches.
We have high ceilings, room to test new ideas and a culture where we both give and seek sparring. Our team is part of a larger engagement department that includes nature guides, a children’s team and Club VILD and project leaders of FLOR – DN's ecosystem of communities.
What you will do
Your workday will alternate between advising and developing our local branches, contact with volunteers and practical and administrative tasks.
You will, among other things, help with
- Advising and developing local branches on organization, strengthening the shared culture, board work, activities and annual calendars. You alternate between advising from the office and visiting local branches.
- Facilitating meetings and processes – both larger cross-branch meetings and other local activities.
- Strengthening recruitment and engagement of volunteers and helping to spread new ways of organizing volunteering.
- Handling conflicts and being a constructive mediator , when collaboration is challenged.
- Teaching and sharing knowledge with volunteers through courses, presentations and other learning activities.
- Editor of AktivNyt - DN's newsletter to the volunteers
- Contribute to larger joint events , including our green national conference.
You should be able both to lead a group of volunteers and create energy, and to sit down with colleagues and think: How can we solve this best together?
Who are you?
We expect you to recognize yourself in several of these descriptions
- You have experience from a membership organization, NGO or similar and have worked with volunteers, consultancy and/or the development of communities and organizations.
- You are good at listening, reading the room and adapting your advice to the situation and the people you are facing.
- You can motivate and engage volunteers and create a desire to act together for a common cause, and you enjoy teaching and sharing with volunteers.
- You thrive with traveling around the country, building relationships and getting to know local communities .
- You thrive in collaboration . You willingly share your knowledge, ask for help, provide sparring and actively contribute to good teamwork.
- You work independently, calmly, systematically and responsibly , while being able to prioritize and make decisions together in the team.
- You can write clearly and audience-oriented and have preferably experience with newsletters and knowledge of audience-focused communication.
Knowledge of nature, environment and climate is an advantage, but not a requirement.
Your educational background is not decisive, but we imagine you have, for example, studied the humanities, social sciences or have a background as a teacher or a similar learning approach. The most important is that you have strong social and professional competencies within volunteering and the development of volunteer communities and a few years of experience with similar tasks.
A job with freedom, flexibility and community
You will have a great deal of freedom with responsibility and good opportunities to develop in the job. We work flexibly, and there is the possibility of remote work by arrangement.
The position entails that you regularly meet with volunteers outside of normal working hours in the countryside – approximately 10-12 evenings and 2 weekends per year . You will of course have the opportunity to take time off, and we strive for sustainability in balancing being out in the country and at home in the office.
The position is 37 hours per week , and the salary follows the state collective agreement. A driving license is required.
With us you also get
- a creative and informal workplace
- strong collegial cohesion
- staff association
- organic, vegetarian lunch arrangement
- flexibility and freedom under responsibility
- good opportunities for professional and personal development.
If you can see yourself in the role as both adviser, facilitator, developer and team player, we look forward to hearing from you.
If you want to know more about the position and our work, you are welcome to contact engagement manager, Mikkel Havelund ( [email protected] / 3119 3207) or team leader Sophie Lundbæk, ( [email protected] / 3119 3252). Application deadline is October 28, but please feel free to send sooner as we review applications continuously. Interviews will be held on November 10 and 11 and November 24.
