About the job

Hornslet Church is seeking an organist for 32 hours per week, a permanent position with start on 1 January 2027

Hornslet Parish is seeking an organist who would like to become part of an active and engaged church life in a parish that is in continued development.

Hornslet Parish has about 6,000 parishioners, and the parish is expected to grow further in the coming years. We experience strong participation at services and religious ceremonies, and many people contribute actively to the life of the church through a strong voluntary engagement. Here you meet a church where community and participation are important values, just as collaboration with the church’s other staff is highly valued.

Music and song have for many years been a significant part of Hornslet Church’s identity. As organist, you will play a central role in the church’s life and have the opportunity to influence the musical development. The church houses our newly restored Köhne organ, which has been restored by Marcussen & Søn. Read more about the organ here: Hornslet Church - Marcussen & Søn . In the church and parish house there are also pianos and other musical equipment.

The parish council wishes for an organist who prioritizes supporting the congregational singing during services, religious ceremonies, events in the parish house and through a lively choral work, and who is passionate about the work that constitutes the church’s everyday life.

An organist who can move with equal joy and confidence between the classical and the rhythmic expressions. Or to put it another way: an organist who masters both Laub and Willy Egmose. In the church and parish house we use the Danish Hymn Book, 100 Hymns and the High School Song Book (Højskolesangbogen). We are looking for an employee who will help create a sense of community in the church through music.

The church choir is a significant part of Hornslet Church. We have several children’s church choirs, which for many years have been an important part of the church’s work. The parish council wishes that this work continue to develop and strengthen in close collaboration with the church’s other staff. We therefore hope to meet an organist who can both see the value in the existing work and at the same time bring new ideas and perspectives with them.

In addition to Holy Masses, spaghetti services and nursing-home services, we hold a number of special services and church events throughout the year. It is important to us that you are musically versatile, thrive with different forms of expression, and are comfortable playing from the score.

We are seeking an organist who wishes to actively participate in the collaboration with priests, staff and volunteers, and who can contribute to developing the church’s musical life with respect for both tradition and renewal.

In your application we would like to hear about

  • How you will work with the children’s church choir in Hornslet Church.
  • How you prepare for a worship service.
  • What opportunities you see in an outdoor worship service on the Second Day of Pentecost.
