About the job
Are you driven by the detective work that is required when you are professionally curious? Do you dare to think anew? Do you have the courage and willingness to help develop both pedagogical practice and the work culture, so perhaps you are the one we are looking for!
We are honest about where we stand
We believe that open and honest dialogue is the way forward, therefore we also start by saying that Spurvetoften is currently under intensified supervision from the Social Supervisory Authority.
This means that we are in the middle of a development process, where we must do some things differently and some things we must do even more of.
We have, among other things, a strong focus on developing our professionalism, where we send several groups off on the Autism pilot education - the first group starts in November. This is something all employees can apply to join, as we will continuously send groups out to upskill as a whole.
We have internal courses, called GRO courses where our subject specialists who also work in the VISO area share knowledge about the target group and the pedagogical approaches and methods, e.g. KRAP, LA2 or neuropedagogy.
We are in a time of culture change, with a particular focus on Professionalism and Collaboration – Collaboration is an important part of making professionalism flourish, and they go hand in hand when we are curious about practice and about each other.
We would like to invite you on a cultural journey, as it is when citizens' needs change compared to 10-15 or 20 years ago. We have received a number of new and typically younger citizens over the last years, who call for new thinking. They have different wishes and needs than the citizens we have known all their lives. This means that the work contains a great diversity in the educational work, where the whole toolbox is dusted off or upgraded.
It can be a sensory level where we need to awaken arousal and support through a predictable, safe and calm routine, underpinned by the good relationship and approach to the citizens. It can also be where we need to turn up the music, create social events such as a Christmas lunch, concerts or nerd club.
The most pervasive is the relational work! It is the cornerstone for uncovering what the citizen's needs and wishes are, as the citizens do not always know it or have difficulty communicating it.
As a pedagogue at Spurvetoften you also use your pedagogical professional skills every day, for example when you meet colleagues in the morning and together make a plan for the day, based on the citizens' needs/risk assessments, etc.
You will experience a high degree of co-determination in your work. We welcome new ideas and initiatives, and you can always initiate a dialogue about how and what we can do.
What is Spurvetoften?
Development Center Spurvetoften is a residential facility in Vejle Municipality.
With us, adults from 17 years up to 80+ live, primarily with autism spectrum disorders, or a few with a disability that benefits from the same approach. This often in combination with developmental disability or other diagnoses. We are a center with 37 residents distributed across five departments on two sites. We work closely with our activity and learning offerings where most of our residents have their daily routines.
At Spurvetoften we work from a pedagogical individualized approach to each resident. The diversity of the target group is broad and therefore there may be residents with and without speech.
The individual approach can include tools such as various communication systems, such as Boardmaker, concrete items, sign language, body language, affective transmission.
Relationship work is the foundation of the work with our residents. It often stems from a structured approach, where you show safety and predictability. It opens up the detective work where we together with the residents can explore what they find exciting and how we together create the best day for them. This can be expressed through sensory work, activities or dialogue with the residents, depending on who they are and how they are feeling.
We work with method descriptions to ensure predictability in the work with and around the residents. Since cognitive levels vary widely you will therefore encounter everything from tasks in personal care, to bus driving to Givskud Zoo, accompaniment to hospital visits and support in ADL
. This provides a good opportunity for differentiated tasks, which we experience as helping to strengthen professionalism and the working environment.
Because our residents are challenged and placed at all cognitive levels, there can be outwardly reactive and self-harming behavior.
Our Core Value
We know that professionalism and collaboration are the two most important qualities for good collaboration with the residents. For us, the core task is ”My every day is my life! – a life with meaning, a life with success, a life where potentials are released”. It obliges us to collaborate with the residents to create a daily life where well-being in daily life counts, every day, for the rest of life
. We therefore seek you who;
- Are brave in relation to thinking anew and being curious about colleagues and residents
- Have experience within the special needs area
- Demonstrate commitment to professionalism and collaboration
- Take pride in leading from the front and helping others
- Work in a conflict-preventive manner, for example through LA2
We offer you
- A job with varied tasks, with a strong focus on collegial sparring throughout the day.
- Internal trainings based on autism, medication, pedagogical approaches such as LA2 etc.
- Ongoing supervisions at our staff meetings
- Management located at each site
- Influence on your work environment and openness to ideas
What your future colleagues hope from you, or what is important for you to know
”I think it is important to emphasize that no one can know everything from the start! You develop a lot in the job and in interaction with both colleagues and residents. You become wiser about the residents all the time, and that knowledge and experience you bring into play all the time.”
”Good collaboration skills are a must! It is a must that you are creative and dare to involve yourself with the residents. You should also not be afraid to dive into practical tasks.”
”Ask questions! There are no stupid questions, no matter how trivial you think it may seem."
”Which colleague would I like to have? One who is happy and has humor, and who wants to work with the residents we have.”
