At Børnehuset Elverhøjen we work from a simple, yet clear ambition

With us, children meet a daily life with presence, familiarity and clear boundaries. We believe that children develop best when the adults around them create calm, structure and meaningful communities.

Therefore we work consciously with the child’s nervous system as a foundation for well-being and development. When children feel secure and regulated, they have the energy for play, relationships and learning. This requires adults who can create calm – both in themselves and in the frameworks we set around the children.

Every day at nine o’clock all seven rooms gather individually in the house – four nursery groups and three kindergarten groups – for a gathering. Here you can almost feel the stillness in the house. The gathering is an important pedagogical space where we work with community, recognizability, language, song and the art of waiting your turn.

We organize ourselves in smaller groups and work purposefully with clear learning environments , where there is room for both immersion, play and relationships. An important element in our pedagogy is what we call everyday learning .

We actively use everyday life to strengthen the children’s independence and participation in the community. The children practice putting on clothes, helping each other, setting the table, tidying up and being part of the small tasks that make everyday life work. It is here that the children gradually learn to stand more on their own in life. Our learning environments are also characterized by an aesthetic and calm interior design , where we work consciously with zones for play, immersion and calm. We constantly strive to create frameworks where all children can find a place to be.

Nature and the local environment are a natural part of our everyday life. We use the playground, the small paths in the local area and trips to the forest and the beach as part of the children’s experiences and learning.

Everyday life at Elverhøjen follows the rhythm of the seasons . This is reflected in our songs, creative activities and in the themes we work with throughout the year.

Our pedagogical work draws on both experience and professional knowledge – among other things with inspiration from the child’s zone of proximal development and the six curriculum themes. We continually work to develop our practice with a focus on structure, learning environments and opportunities for participation for as many children as possible .

We place great emphasis on thriving in the collegial community. We are a house with around 120 children and 30 staff , where collaboration, professional sparring and humor are an important part of everyday life.

Practical

The position is in principle full-time , but the number of hours can be agreed. However a minimum 32 hours , as we experience that this provides the best coherence for both children and staff. Børnehuset Elverhøjen is centrally located in Espergærde, close to forests, beaches and public transport. We have large, inspiring playgrounds, divided so that the youngest children are shielded from fast-moving bicycles and the like.
