Skovvang Børnehus – a well-functioning kindergarten with a focus on outdoor life and play

Skovvang Børnehus is an integrated institution for ages 0-6 years, normed for 52 preschool children and 32 toddlers, which is part of Lillevangklyngen . We are a cohesive house with good spaces in both the toddler and the preschool sections.

Skovvang Børnehus is located at the edge of the forest, close to a lake and with a large natural playground, with different zones which we have developed to support our active outdoor life, which we adapt to the seasons. We go on outings in the local area, cook according to the season together with the children at our covered fire pit with for example elderflower, nuts and berries, which we have foraged in the nearby forest. In general, we and the children are happy to be outdoors a lot.

In Skovvang we work in teams, both with the close in small groups and with the broad across the kindergarten, taking into account the children's age and development level. The children are divided into three teams aged 2.5-5 years. The pre-school group meets three mornings a week across the three core groups.

We work based on the strengthened pedagogical learning plan and take the children's perspective as the starting point when we plan our pedagogical activities. We work with learning environments all day and focus on the children's participation opportunities to ensure the quality that creates well-being, learning, development and formation for the children. We hold sparring meetings and regularly set aside time for pedagogical planning in daily life just as we continuously work on upskilling learning environments, where new ideas and creative inputs are always welcome.

We value good collaboration among the adults, which is decisive for creating a safe and developing everyday life for the children and a good workplace for the adults. When we know each other’s positions, competences and roles, it becomes easier to coordinate efforts and ensure a coherent pedagogical practice, to the benefit of both children and adults. The joint planning allows us to structure the day with a clear overview of activities, child groups and individual needs as well as to use our different competences in the best possible way.

The adults are strategically placed in the outer hours to create clear frames that ensure predictability and security for the children in their everyday life. We have a strong focus on adult positioning so that children can choose the room they want to be in and where there is an adult present. At the same time, the adults have an overview of the group dynamics, where the children have the opportunity to develop independently while experiencing social learning in interaction with other children.

The distribution of teachers and assistants is even, and the staff group consists of 19 pedagogical staff, two kitchen staff and a pedagogical leader.

A strong parent collaboration

We have an involved parents’ council, which acts as a link between the kindergarten and the parents. Through dialogue and joint initiatives our parents help shape everyday life. The parents' engagement creates a strong sense of community where everyone contributes to making the toddler and kindergarten time even better for the children.

Our parents engage in activities such as work days, events and social initiatives, which strengthens the community both among children and adults. Helpfulness is an important value in a good parent collaboration and parents’ council, whether it is about organizing the summer party, improving the playground, or helping in other ways.

Employment terms

The position is as a rule 37 hours, but we are open to other wishes, as it means a lot to us that the job also fits your private life.

Working hours fall in the period 6.45-17.00 (Friday 7-16) with one evening meeting per month.

There are course days attached for all staff – and you will naturally become part of this development programme as an integrated part of your employment.

Salary and terms of employment will be set in accordance with the applicable collective agreement for pedagogues.
