About the job
Would you like to work somewhere where high professionalism and homeliness go hand in hand – and where the good lives of five people are the most important thing we go to work for?
Then you might be our new colleague at Birkehuset.
Birkehuset is a small residential care home in Store Heddinge with room for five adults with developmental disabilities. And when we say small, we mean it in a very good way. Here we know each other. Here relationships matter. Here there is space for diversity, laughter, traditions, everyday life, festive days and the days when life is just a bit tough.
Birkehuset is first and foremost the residents' home. The rest of us have our workplace here.
That makes a difference to the way we work. A home with high professionalism
In Birkehuset we believe that people should have the opportunity to live their own life – with the support that is needed. Our pedagogical work is therefore not about doing things for the residents, but about doing things with them and supporting them to be able to do as much as possible themselves. It can be the big things in life. Relationships, love, family, dreams, sorrow and joy. And it can be all the ordinary things: making dinner, shopping, doing laundry, going to work, going to the doctor, going on a trip or figuring out what you feel like doing on Friday.
We work with quality of life, self-determination and life mastery as important guiding principles. Relationships, security and knowledge of the individual resident are a fundamental part of our professionalism. You will become part of a small and close-knit work community.
When you work in a small house, every single employee matters. We must be able to trust each other, ask for each other’s advice and be curious about each other’s professionalism. We must also be able to laugh together and help each other when the day didn’t turn out exactly as we had imagined.
We do not just want a new employee. We want a new colleague who wants to be part of Birkehuset and contribute to the community that makes the place something special.
With us you may have opinions. You may come up with ideas. And you may be very passionate about your profession. In return we also expect that you can reflect on your own practice and be curious whether there are other ways to understand and solve a situation.
Who do we hope you are?
You are a trained pedagogue and see possibilities before limitations. You understand that good social pedagogy sometimes looks very quiet. That it can be a major professional task to wait a little longer, support a little less or find exactly the way to communicate that makes a person able to make a choice.
We also hope that you
- meet people with respect, warmth and humor
- can create structure and security without taking control over another person’s life
- have an eye for both the individual and the community
- can work professionally with goals, sub-goals, observations and documentation
- are keen on close collaboration with the residents’ families and other networks
- take responsibility and at the same time know when to reach out to a colleague
- contribute to a working community where we both take care of the residents, the professionalism and each other
Experience with people with developmental disabilities is of course an advantage. But your approach to people, your professional curiosity and your desire to become part of Birkehuset mean just as much.
What do you get with us?
You will get five people you will come to know really well.
You will get colleagues who want to make an effort together with you.
You will get a workplace where the pedagogical professionalism is not only found in meetings and in documentation, but in everyday life – at the dinner table, in the car ride, in the difficult conversation and in the small moments when something suddenly succeeds.
And you will also have the opportunity to become part of a very special small house with high well-being, presence and joy of life.
We could write a lot about Birkehuset. But we actually believe the place should be experienced. So if you have become a little curious, you are very welcome to contact us and hear more about the position.
Maybe we are looking for you.
And maybe you are looking for a place like Birkehuset without quite knowing it yet.
