About the job
2 introductory positions in psychiatry – Forensic Psychiatric Department, Aarhus University Hospital, Skejby
Will you work with complex and longer-lasting psychiatric patient pathways – and at the same time strengthen your acute skills through on-call work?
We have two introductory positions available as of January 1, 2027 in the Forensic Psychiatric Department at AUH in Skejby.
Positions are linked to the following service sites: Aarhus University Hospital, Forensic Psychiatric Department in Skejby and Forensic Psychiatric Department in Viborg. The main service site is Aarhus University Hospital, Forensic Psychiatric Department in Skejby.
A daily life with professional immersion
In forensic psychiatry we work with patients with severe mental illness who are charged or convicted of criminal acts. This means that you in daily life become part of longer and more complex treatment courses, where continuity and treatment alliance are central elements. You will have the opportunity to get to know your patients thoroughly and follow their development over time.
The work involves systematic and evidence-based risk assessment as well as a holistic approach, where biological, psychological and social factors are integrated into the treatment. You enter into a close multidisciplinary collaboration, where joint reflection and professional sparring are a natural part of everyday life. The pace is characterized by immersion and thoroughness, and there is room to work clinically in depth.
Acute psychiatry on duty
Although daily life in forensic psychiatry is characterized by continuity and longer treatment courses, you will strengthen your acute competencies through on-call work. You join a joint pre-night team at AUH together with general psychiatry, which provides broad exposure to acute psychiatric issues across the specialty.
On duty you will receive and assess acute patients, perform psychiatric assessments, initiate treatment and handle situations where coercive measures may be needed – always in close cooperation with the on-call supervisor and the rest of the multidisciplinary staff.
You will receive thorough training and go on accompanying shifts before working independently on call. The combination of forensic psychiatry immersion in daily life and acute general psychiatry on call provides a versatile and solid introductory position with both clinical breadth and specialized depth.
Focus on education
We prioritize your learning highly and offer
- Fixed main supervisor
- Daily supervision and easy access to sparring
- Two annual teaching days for the physician group
- Weekly medication meetings
- Regular weekly meeting for younger doctors
- Introduction course in psychiatry (I-course)
- Possibility for psychotherapeutic basic course
- Possible participation in the annual meeting of the Danish Psychiatric Society
If you have particular professional interests, we will try as far as possible to arrange a course that supports your development.
Part of a larger, highly specialized department
The forensic psychiatry in Skejby is part of the overall Forensic Psychiatric Department at AUH, which in total has about 450 staff spread over two sites in Skejby and Viborg with seven wards, three clinics and a research unit.
You will become part of a large, professionally strong organization with both clinical breadth and research weight – while you work in an orderly and good collegial environment with short distance to supervision and management.
Who are you?
We are looking for a colleague with drive and willingness to engage in psychiatric issues.
You want to try your hand at the short acute pathways through on-call and the more long-term and complex pathways on the ward.
