Physician (unclassified) for Plastic and Breast Surgery, AUH

About the position

Plastic and Breast Surgery Department is seeking two unclassified resident doctors who have great enthusiasm and energy to develop a specialty with increasing demand. There will be an individually tailored introduction program and ongoing training in relation to handling the tasks. You will have a main role in the responsibility area “cancer”, but during your employment you will also have to handle patients within the other areas of responsibility ("mamma", "micro", "MWL", "wound", "general").

As an unclassified resident doctor you will receive a structured introduction program and ongoing training. In addition, you will be assigned a mentor. To enhance learning outcomes, we encourage using the same structure for conducting supervisor discussions during the course.

Day duty function

This function includes occasional acute work (assessment of acute patients who present in the clinic or in the emergency department needing plastic surgical assessment, assessment of other acute issues in the wards, supervision in other departments, approval of blood test results, possibly individual chart entries and other incidental work). Evening/night shifts and weekend shifts are handled by doctors in their main training and by specialists.

Outpatient function

Plastic Surgery Clinic with cancer controls, pre-examinations of patients referred with melanoma- and non-melanoma skin cancer and patients referred for treatment of various benign conditions (benign tumors, functionally bothersome scar tissue, functionally bothersome excess skin after massive weight loss, etc.).

Ward rounds

Care of all patient categories admitted to the ward (with specialist doctor back-up).

Education

One or more administrative tasks as part of maintaining a good educational structure in the department.

Independent surgical treatment

• patients referred with suspected melanoma (the whole body)
• patients referred for treatment of non-melanoma skin cancer (the whole body, but especially in the head-and-neck region) with or without need for reconstruction (local flaps or graft)
• patients with proven melanoma, who require re-excision of the melanoma area and removal of sentinel lymph nodes (axilla or groin).
• patients requiring wound revision and possibly reconstruction or VAC installation.
• other patient categories depending on competence.

Assist in the department's other operations

Our department prioritizes education highly and apprenticeship learning is a given in our daily life. Here you will typically perform parts of larger procedures (supervised) or whole procedures (supervised) when you are assisting. It is also expected that you have prepared yourself.

About the department

Plastic and Breast Surgery Department is a dynamic, well-organized department with a strong focus on development, digitalization and continuous optimization. You will become part of a well-functioning and cohesive group of doctors with very good internal collaboration in the department, but also cross-disciplinary with other partners.

Plastic surgery is a specialty dominated by open surgery and a specialty with only a few standardized treatments. Plastic surgery is therefore not limited to a single anatomical area, but handles treatments that involve skin and subcutaneous tissue, but also fascia, musculature, bone, cartilage, nerves, tendons, blood vessels and, occasionally, the small intestine (reconstruction of the esophagus with a free jejunal interposition). This applies to the whole body for all age groups.

In addition, we work with highly specialized 3D solutions in our reconstructions and with various reconstruction materials including dermal substitution products, silicone prostheses, etc.

We are looking for doctors with

• surgical flair and theoretical knowledge (including knowledge of anatomy and physiology, surgical techniques and not least the ERAS principles)
• good communication skills
• strong collaboration abilities
• an overview of the complex
• a strong desire to contribute to continued development
• great dedication, detail-oriented and time-efficient
• ability to handle the large increase in patients with melanoma- and non-melanoma skin cancer as well as management of large complex reconstructions in joint-venture with all other surgical specialties.

Salary and employment terms

Salary and employment terms follow the applicable collective agreement. Employment is conditioned by a satisfactory child-safety check and authorization. The position is a full-time position.

Working hours are 7.45-15.09. Some days will have long days until 18:00.

Start date

The position is desired to be filled on January 1, 2027 or according to agreement and one year forward.
