About the job

Do you want to make a difference for children and young people with special needs and help strengthen their opportunities for participation, movement and community in the school day?

Do you also want to become part of a strong professional community with good opportunities for sparring, development and specialization?

Then you may be one of the physiotherapists we are looking for for two permanent positions and a maternity cover of 35-37 hours per week in the Children’s Center Copenhagen’s special school group.

About the job

Children’s Center Copenhagen provides therapeutic support to 24 special schools in the Copenhagen Municipality. As a physiotherapist you will be permanently attached to one to three schools, where you work closely with school staff to support students’ development, functional ability and participation in the school day.

You will be part of a smaller team with close daily collaboration and at the same time part of our overall therapy group of around 55 occupational and physiotherapists. We meet regularly across teams for professional sparring, knowledge sharing and joint development. Working at the special schools involves various physiotherapeutic tasks, including:

Education-related physiotherapy

Here you mainly work in a consultative capacity and with a focus on creating the best possible conditions for students’ participation in teaching and the school’s social communities. The tasks can include

  • observation and assessment of students’ motor and sensorimotor prerequisites for participation
  • guidance to school staff on adapting activities and learning environments
  • support for movement and physical activity in the school day, e.g. sports, active breaks and learning through movement
  • initiation of motor activities and group programs
  • professional presentations, sparring and knowledge sharing with the school staff.

You prioritize the tasks in close collaboration with your therapy colleagues and the school staff.

Individual training and rehabilitation

In addition to the education-related work, we also handle individual maintenance training under the Child Act and rehabilitation under the Health Act. Here you work with examination, goal-setting, planning, implementation and evaluation of training efforts in close collaboration with the child, the family and other professionals involved with the child.

We emphasize that the interventions are meaningful for the child, and that there is coherence between training and the child’s everyday life.

We are looking for you if you

  • are a licensed physiotherapist and have experience with or a strong interest in children and young people with special needs
  • have a solid physiotherapeutic professional foundation and a desire to further develop your competencies
  • have knowledge of or interest in relevant assessment and measurement tools such as Movement ABC, GMFM and CPOP
  • can work independently, take initiative and prioritise your tasks
  • are eager to work both in a consultative capacity and with individual training interventions
  • thrive in interdisciplinary collaboration and can actively apply your physiotherapy knowledge
  • are curious, flexible and eager to share knowledge and learn together with your colleagues.

You do not need to have experience with all tasks or target groups. The most important is that you want to work with children and young people with special needs and contribute with your physiotherapeutic expertise.

We offer

  • a strong and engaged working community with around 55 occupational and physiotherapists
  • a professional environment with opportunities for sparring, specialization and competence development
  • a trusted workplace with a high degree of influence, involvement and shared responsibility
  • a varied working day with both independent tasks and close interdisciplinary collaboration
  • focus on professional development, knowledge sharing and ongoing reflection on our practice
  • an introduction program during the first 14 days, where you, among other things, visit other schools and follow experienced colleagues
  • a mentorship arrangement where you are paired with a physiotherapist colleague who helps you get started.

Salary and employment terms

The positions are 35-37 hours per week with start from January 4, 2027. Salary and employment terms follow the applicable collective agreement. We work with zero-hour contracts, which means that, for example, when employed for 37 hours you work 39.5 hours per week and, in return, accrue extra days off. In connection with the hires, we obtain child and criminal record checks as well as references.
