About the job

We are looking for a responsible, flexible and independent prison teacher for Nørre Snede and Møgelkær prisons who wants to make a difference and contribute to helping individuals safely move on to a life without crime. If that sounds like you, read on.

For teaching at Nørre Snede Prison and Møgelkær Prison, as of January 1, 2027, a prison teacher with an average weekly working time of 37 hours is sought.

As a prison teacher you will become part of a team of 6 prison teachers, 1 subject teacher, 3 guidance counselors and 1 vocational education coordinator, who together carry out the various tasks related to teaching inmates. You will therefore participate in all aspects of the teaching task. You will help motivate and retain the inmates, and you will plan and conduct your own teaching with an average of 21 lessons per week and lead the inmates to exams.

About the job

The teaching takes place in small groups and, in some cases, one-on-one. At Nr. Snede Prison there is limited access to the Internet, so the teaching is therefore primarily analog and in a few cases via a specially secured network.

In Møgelkær, teaching takes place in an open regime, which means that class sizes are different from Nr. Snede.

Møgelkær’s school is not restricted by segregation in daily life, which provides other possibilities in didactic planning. The core task will be teaching inmates at AVU and FVU levels and developing an academically oriented learning environment that is based on a high degree of differentiated approaches to the inmates.

As a teacher you will be responsible for testing, placement at the correct level, teaching in small groups, updating action plans and you will have administrative tasks related to teaching. At the same time you will have a central role as IT manager for the schools’ teaching environments.

We are about to adapt and develop the school in Møgelkær, and you as a future teacher with us will have a strong influence on this, in collaboration with the team.

You will participate in an interdisciplinary case management with teacher colleagues, school secretary, guidance counselors, social workers, prison officers, foremen, therapists, etc. In other words, you will have a broad collaboration across the entire prison.

IT responsibility

  • Daily support to teachers and inmates when using teaching-related IT equipment and software
  • Preparation, maintenance and administration of computers, printers and other teaching equipment
  • Administration of user access and teaching systems within applicable security rules
  • Support for local IT-related projects
  • Other IT tasks may be considered based on skills and experience

We expect that you

  • Are trained as a teacher and can teach Danish, English or mathematics – preferably at the FVU level. If you have other elective subjects within the AVU subject range, that is a big plus
  • Can independently plan and perform your teaching tasks and have solid expertise
  • Are willing to teach inmates who have often lost faith in their own academic abilities
  • Can show tolerance – both academically and personally – and have a positive view of people, respect for each individual and an interest in crime prevention work
  • Can respect a fixed, structured prison environment where order and safety are key words, and where the job requires various security and risk assessments during your workday
  • Can maintain an overview and are responsible, and you are able to show determination.
  • Are good at communicating with both inmates and colleagues from different professional groups

About you

You should want to work with teaching in a daily life characterized by change and challenges, and with students who differ significantly from many other student groups, but who also provide many positive experiences.

You will be part of a collaboration with the prison’s other staff in a workplace characterized by a good working environment.

We emphasize respect for the individual and working in a holistic and solution-oriented manner regarding the challenges that arise and the tasks that need to be solved.

We offer

  • A thorough introduction to the job and the workplace
  • To become part of a workplace that pulls together and whose goal is to make a difference for the inmates
  • A daily life characterized by change and challenges, but also a warm and humorous approach to each other
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Professional sparring across Denmark’s Prisons

Salary and terms of employment

Employment and remuneration are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Teachers’ Union and CO10, as well as the collective agreement for prison teachers and others and the related local agreements. In addition, allowances may be agreed depending on experience and qualifications.

  • The position is a full-time position with an average weekly working time of 37 hours
  • The area of employment is Denmark’s Prisons
  • The workplace is located at respectively Vejlevej 45, 8766 Nørre Snede and Møgelkærvej 15, 7130 Juelsminde. Travel between both campuses may be required
