About the job

Drainage of wetlands and low-lying farmland on the Green Tripartite is at the very top of the environmental policy agenda in Denmark. In the Municipality of Varde, we solve all of our own wetland and stream projects.

It gives us a broad professional range and interesting tasks in daily work. It is something we are proud of, and over the years it has helped to build strong relationships and good cooperation with both agricultural organizations and landowners.

We are already well underway with translating the Green Tripartite into concrete results. We work both with realizing projects and ongoing preliminary studies, while several new projects are ready behind the scenes. The task of restoring natural hydrology over about 11,000 ha and strengthening the river restoration efforts through project work is therefore already well under way. With the increased activity, we are stepping up the effort to establish wetland and low-lying farmland projects for the benefit of nature, climate, and the water environment.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a sharp project associate who will help lift our many river restoration and nature projects.

You will closely follow the projects from idea to completed construction. We are particularly looking for a profile who wants to be a central part of the final project phase, where detailed design is translated into reality in the field. Your tasks will include detailed design, procurement, supervision of construction work, as well as follow-up and reporting.

You will act as the link between the project, landowners, contractors, and other collaborators, so it is important that you thrive on dialogue, coordination, and follow-up. At the same time, you must be able to keep track of contracts, finances, and the project’s progress.

You will also participate in other project activities, which include preliminary studies, field surveys, and development of new projects. If you are the right person, you will have a significant influence on shaping your own position and tasks.

Regardless of which profile you come with, it will be important that you enjoy a varied workday, where work shifts between the field and the desk. You should be eager to put on rubber boots but also to subsequently ensure the necessary documentation and administrative follow-up.

But don’t worry - whether you are a recent graduate or experienced, we will help each other with the tasks. We are a strong project group that supports and develops the projects together. Because we know that the best solutions are created collectively.

We imagine you have

  • Flair for contact and dialogue with landowners, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Experience with river restoration and wetland schemes, as well as the framework conditions for agriculture
  • Experience with project management
  • Good IT skills, preferably with knowledge of GIS
  • Collaborative and proactive
  • Flair and interest in nature and the river restoration area
  • A relevant education, e.g. Agricultural Technologist, Forestry and Landscape Engineer, Biologist or similar, but you can also have acquired your competencies by other means.
  • Knowledge of hydrology and river systems

Varde Municipality has a uniquely superb location as the westernmost municipality in Denmark. We have the rugged nature with beaches, dunes, and heath to the west. To the east we have the river valleys and forests and the more fertile landscape. Engineering and the Environment play an important role in relation to the development and preservation of the area.
