Project Manager for the Construction Department in Ilulissat

Avannaata Municipality is seeking a Project Manager for our construction department in Ilulissat as of 1 November 2026 or as agreed.

You will be the Project Manager in the construction department under the Management for Technology. Professionally you will report to the Head of Department for infrastructure.

Avannaata Municipality has a central administration in Ilulissat. Avannaata Municipality has about 10,650 inhabitants who live spread across 4 towns and 21 settlements. Ilulissat is developing, and a new airport with a length of 2,200 meters, as well as hotels and new housing, is being built in the near future.

Next to Ilulissat lies the world-famous Ilulissat Icefjord Kangia, which is listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List and attracts many tourists to the area each year. The Midnight Sun, dog sledding, ice floes, fishing, UNESCO, the sea, sea ice and the Northern Lights are characteristic of Greenland’s northernmost Municipality, Avannaata Municipality. The town has many associations in sports and culture that you can become part of. There are several restaurants and cafés in the town.

Main responsibilities

Project management of the municipality's construction projects, including

·Implementation of construction projects in Avannaata Municipality.

·Financial management of construction projects.

·Cooperation with other departments in Avannaata Municipality.

·Collaboration with consultants.

·Tendering and bidding for construction projects.

The above will be core tasks for the position, which will also include cross-disciplinary project tasks from across the administration to a substantial extent.

Desired qualifications

We seek applicants with strong professional qualifications and with an educational background as a building engineer/structural engineer/technician/surveyor or equivalent in the field of construction and infrastructure.

·Experience with building and land legislation.

·Experience from a similar position.

·You show flexibility regarding workload.

·You are proficient in IT, familiar with the Office suite and ERP Prisme.

·You are good at communicating in writing, verbally and graphically.

·You are bilingual, (Greenlandic/Danish) but this is not a requirement.

·You are eager to work in a politically led organization.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment terms will be in accordance with the collective agreement in force at the time of entry between Naalakkersuisut and the relevant negotiating organization.

The appointment will be made with a 3-month probationary period.

Housing is not provided for the position.

About the position

The position is organizationally placed in the Construction Department, which handles Avannaata Municipality’s construction tasks.

The Department of Technology currently employs 21 staff members, consisting of architects, engineers, constructors, and other technicians. The geographical area covers Ilulissat and the towns of Uummannaq, Upernavik and Qaanaaq and the corresponding settlements.

The Department of Technology communicates with citizens and businesses.

Criminal record

This position is covered by the Act on the Duty to Obtain a Criminal Record. Pursuant to the Act, employment may not commence until the Municipality has received a criminal record. We must thus inform you that the start date can only be agreed when the Municipality has received the criminal record from the Police.
