About the job

At Danish MLD is preparing to revolutionize the fishing industry. The first stage of an innovative trawl system with drones has already been launched. But the next stage requires help from a visionary and experienced project manager with a background as a mechanical engineer. Someone who can not only shape an entirely new job, but who also is passionate about sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions, and can see themselves fighting to achieve the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

It's about far more than just profit optimization as the world's commercial fishers face the next revolution in the industry. In the future, far greater consideration must be given to natural habitats, biodiversity, CO2 emissions, as well as environmental and climate impacts.

In collaboration with DTU Aqua and with support from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Danish MLD ApS has developed the first steps in what is well on its way to becoming an international industry standard for trawl fishing.

Remotely controlled drones replace the bottom-trawl dredges

Since 2015, the engineering company has been working on a replacement for the traditional bottom-trawl dredges, which for the past several decades have plowed and destroyed fragile seabed around the world. This must end now!

Inspired by the aviation industry, MLD has therefore developed computer-controlled drones that not only keep away from the seabed, but also can optimize the spread of the fishing net and its distance from the seabed. The drones minimize seabed contact and fuel consumption, benefiting the marine environment, the living conditions of the fish, as well as the economic of the fishing skippers.

Help to transform Danish idea into international success

The first generation of the system – simply called 'MLD Trawl Steering System' (MLD TSS) – has already been put into use by skippers from the Faroe Islands and Iceland. Now it has to go out worldwide, and here there is a need for further development and optimization of the hydrodynamic design as well as further development of the intelligent remote control and integration with other instruments.

Therefore MLD needs an experienced project manager with a background as a mechanical engineer who can help lift the MLD TSS into the next phase. This is not only about being imaginative and technically strong, but also about being a good team player with a passion for nature and climate protection.

The new colleague will be allowed to create their own job and will be close to the strategic management of MLD, meaning influence on the entire organization will be significant.

At MLD we conquer the world together

The organization at MLD is deliberately flat, and the distance to CEO Gregers Baungaard's office is ultraclose. There is not far from idea to action, and all employees are allowed to voice concrete ideas and test what could become the next innovative solutions.

For Gregers Baungaard it has been crucial to create a working climate where everyone looks forward to coming back to work again tomorrow. Therefore teamwork with cross-disciplinary knowledge sharing is the daily core, with a friendly, informal and almost homely tone.

It is the whole team's burning wish to convert Danish innovation into international success. Therefore it is important that an employee at MLD can operate in fluent English – for example when working with international colleagues, new customers or with the researchers at DTU Aqua.

Gear up for an exciting journey

Are you an experienced project manager with a background as a mechanical engineer who has done a bit of everything in the mechanical field? And do you have experience in other areas, e.g., lifecycle design, materials, sustainable production or other areas, then bring it all to MLD.

You should expect 20-40 travel days per year for testing, onboarding and installation.

Here awaits a fun, exciting and professionally challenging job, where a competitive salary and pension as well as a good health scheme naturally accompany as a given.
