Project Manager/Interim Team Leader

Location

Apply for the position

Take a central role in the development and delivery of complex and societally critical infrastructure projects with clear leadership responsibility. You will have a strong mandate to drive growth and, in time, build and lead your own business unit within the bridge and tunnel area in West Denmark.

The Bridge and Tunnel Department is facing a number of new, complex and societally critical infrastructure projects. We continuously strengthen our position in bridge and tunnel, and maintain ambitious growth targets – both regarding project portfolio and recruitment. To support the increasing project activity and realize our growth strategy, we are now seeking a commercially strong project manager who can simultaneously take on interim leadership responsibility.

In the Bridge and Tunnel department we work with varied and challenging projects ranging from design and maintenance to professional and project management on both small and large infrastructure projects. Currently, our portfolio includes ongoing work on the rebuild of the E45 at Aarhus N – Aarhus S, five bridge packages south and north of the Limfjord with a total of 44 bridges in connection with the 3rd Limfjord Connection, as well as a major refurbishment of Universitetsboulevarden in Aalborg.

We have recently demonstrated our professional strength by winning 5 out of 5 bridge packages on the 3rd Limfjord Connection on quality. This includes, most recently, the bridge packages North 1 (R42) and North 2 (R43) – a total of 16 bridges north of the Limfjord.

Focus on leadership, business development and technical depth

The role is dynamic, and to thrive in the position you must be motivated by the idea that your role and title will develop over the coming years. We are working towards you eventually stepping in as team leader for your own team in Aalborg.

Initially you will be interim team leader for our bridge and tunnel staff in Aarhus, Silkeborg and Aalborg – a strong team of competent and dedicated employees working on a broad portfolio of bridge and civil engineering projects. In addition to the daily personnel responsibility, you will be a central driver in setting direction, creating growth and further developing the business area – with particular focus on the North Jutland market.

This includes, among other things, identifying sales opportunities, preparing proposals and thereby actively contributing to growing the task portfolio in the team. All while the current team leader is on leave.

After the period as interim leader, your role will move in a direction where you increasingly act as a commercial project manager with clear strategic focus areas, but still as responsible for the North Jutland business. We expect that you, in close collaboration with the management team in Bridge and Tunnel, will be able to recruit and win enough projects to establish your own autonomous team within a few years.

The position involves a high degree of autonomy, responsibility and flexibility, and you will have the opportunity to make a significant mark on both the team's and the business's development. There will also be a clear focus on professional leadership: you actively bring your experience into sparring with the team, in developing employees' skills and in your commercial responsibilities – including budget, profitability and portfolio management. At the same time you will be an active part of the projects, so you continuously maintain and develop your own professional profile.

Your profile

To be relevant for the position we would like you to be able to tick the following boxes

  • You have experience with project management or have worked with leadership. Alternatively you have solid experience with professional leadership and wish in your next career step to combine this with personnel management and full project leadership responsibility.
  • You have an engineering background and experience from infrastructure/bridge projects of varying size and complexity.
  • You are professionally strong and can actively contribute to ensuring that Sweco remains among the industry's leading players.
  • You have good communication skills and are motivated by working with sales, including bidding work and developing existing customer relationships – and we therefore expect you to thrive in an outward-facing role with close customer dialogue.
  • You are a strong networker and see value in collaboration across disciplines, departments and national borders. You preferably have a strong network, or the motivation and energy to build one. You communicate confidently in both Danish and English – in writing as well as orally.

A significant career step with broad leadership responsibility

The position gives you overall responsibility that is rarely achieved in one role. You work across personnel leadership, professional leadership and commercial responsibility, and thereby gain a holistic understanding of leadership in Europe’s leading consulting engineering and architectural company. This makes the role a solid foundation for further career steps – both within Sweco and in a broader leadership perspective.

You will have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills in practice through daily management of specialists, strategic sparring with the rest of the leadership, and clear responsibility for economics, sales and business development.

Sweco actively supports your development. You will have access to sparring with leaders in similar roles, support from relevant internal support functions, within finance, personnel management and bid preparation, as well as targeted internal courses in leadership and business understanding. The combination of responsibility, sparring and structured competence development makes the position a strong learning platform where you can deliver results now and build competencies central to your further career.
