About the job

Lead a strong project team and take responsibility for some of the largest construction projects that will develop and future-proof Aarhus University Hospital.

Do you want to lead multi-billion investments in the hospital of the future?

Aarhus University Hospital stands at the threshold of a significant investment push. The hospital must be developed, expanded, and future-proofed through a series of major building and civil engineering projects with an expected investment framework of up to DKK 3 billion over the next 10 years.

We are therefore seeking a project manager who can translate ambitions and plans into reality. A leader who can deliver results through collaboration, professionalism, and precise execution, and who can likewise lead the team that drives the largest construction projects at Aarhus University Hospital.

The position is anchored in Region Midtjylland’s shared client organisation, Construction and Properties, and you will here be a central part of the organisation that plans and implements the region’s largest building and civil engineering projects.

A unique portfolio of projects

As project manager you will be responsible for a substantial project portfolio at Aarhus University Hospital.

Among the coming years’ largest projects are

  • Danish Neuro Research Center 2.0 (DNC 2.0)
  • New Children’s and Youth Hospital
  • Renovation and modernization of surgical facilities
  • Establishment of a new sterile services department
  • Rebuilding and upgrading of patient rooms
  • Extensive renovations of technical installations and supply systems
  • Other renovation, conversion, and expansion projects to ensure the hospital’s continued development

Several of the projects are realized in collaboration with external contributors and funds, while others are financed through the government’s Health Fund. Common to all projects is that they must be carried out in one of the country’s most complex and operation-intensive environments, where patient care and hospital operations must continue to function every single day.

Your tasks

As project manager you will be both team leader, client, and strategic partner.

You will be responsible for

  • Daily professional leadership of the team that works on the larger civil engineering projects at Aarhus University Hospital
  • Management of your own complex building and civil engineering projects
  • Ensuring progress, economy, quality, and risk management
  • Close collaboration with the hospital’s management, planning department and technical department, clinical departments and other users
  • Leadership of the collaboration with advisers, contractors and other external partners
  • Contribution to the joint development of Byggeri og Ejendomme’s overall project organisation
  • Cross-regional collaboration with other project managers and project directors

You report to one of Byggeri og Ejendommes two project directors.

Who are you?

You likely have a construction- or technically oriented educational background, for example as an engineer, architect or designer, combined with solid experience from large building and civil engineering projects. You are motivated by ensuring progress and can maintain focus through long processes. Most importantly, you can deliver results – both yourself and through others.

We imagine that you

  • Have experience in leading complex construction projects
  • Have strong leadership skills and are motivated to develop employees and teams. The team currently consists of three highly competent project managers, but the number will grow as new tasks start up.
  • Can create direction, followership, and progress in complex organisations
  • Have strong collaboration skills and thrive at the intersection of many stakeholders
  • Are structured and persistent in your execution
  • Have an eye for both strategic goals and practical implementation
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, even when interests and considerations must be balanced
  • Have experience with financial management and risk handling in larger projects
  • Experience from hospital and/or pharmaceutical construction, public construction, or another complex client organisation would be an advantage.

Why Region Midtjylland?

In Construction and Properties you will become part of a large, public, well-functioning and experienced client organisation. About 50 colleagues with strong professional skills and high ambitions work together to optimise the region’s property portfolio, including developing and implementing the region’s major civil engineering projects. Some are based in Regionshuset Viborg and others at the region’s five acute hospitals – including Aarhus University Hospital, where the project manager for AUH will have their fixed workplace.

You will have the opportunity to

  • Make a lasting mark on the future of the health service
  • Work with some of the country’s most complex and socially critical building projects
  • Lead a strong professional team with high competence and great autonomy
  • Join a close professional community with the region’s other project managers and directors
  • Work in an organisation characterised by high professionalism, integrity, and collaboration

Plans are in place. Now we are looking for the project manager who can tie the strands together, create progress, and ensure that the projects become reality.

Salary and terms of employment

  • The position is 37 hours per week with expected start date January 1, 2027.
  • Salary and terms of employment in accordance with the applicable collective agreement and the salary is agreed with the union representative organisation. Depending on your background and qualifications, functional and/or qualification supplements can be negotiated.
  • The workplace is Aarhus University Hospital, Hedeager 3, 8200 Aarhus N.
  • Some days with meetings and work at other locations in the region can be expected.
  • There are good arrangements for 1-2 weekly home-working days if desired.

Application deadline and interview dates

Application deadline is 25 October 2026.

The first round of interviews is expected to be held in Aarhus on 3 November, and the second round on 18 November.

For candidates advancing to the 2nd round, a personality test etc. will be conducted between the interviews.
