About the job
Regionshospitalet Randers is establishing an independent cardiology department. We therefore seek a chief physician who is motivated by high professional standards, visible leadership and strong collaboration, and who will help shape a department that unites staff, strengthens the specialty and creates cohesive pathways for our heart patients.
The cardiology medical specialty plays a crucial role in an acute hospital and has so far been an integrated part of the Medical Department at Regionshospitalet Randers. We aim with the appointment of a cardiology department leadership to take the first step towards establishing the independent Department of Cardiac Diseases and thereby strengthen the professional profile and develop the cardiology specialty at the hospital.
As Chief Physician of Cardiology you will thus have a unique opportunity to be involved in building and developing a new department consisting of about 70-80 engaged staff who are passionate about cardiology, and who have a clear wish to become even more specialized and skilled within the cardiology field.
Together with a newly appointed Chief Nursing Officer you will lead a department characterized by professional pride. We have close collaboration across professional groups with a central position in the operation of the acute hospital. Here patients and staff experience good humor, helpfulness, closeness and a strong sense of community, where one helps out when needed.
About the position
We are seeking an ambitious chief physician who is a specialist in cardiology with strong professional insight into the cardiology area. You may have management experience, but most importantly is that you have empathy and a desire to lead as well as the ability to work with organizational development and change processes.
The department will play an important role in realizing the intentions of the Health Reform, where a larger part of the hospital's activities should be solved closer to the citizens' own homes. An example is the cardiology offering that shall be established in Grenaa as part of the budget agreement for 2026. You must therefore be able to think patient care outside the hospital's walls and contribute to developing the local health service in collaboration with the hospital's other departments.
The position as chief physician includes medical leadership, strategic development and a focus on daily operations. You will be responsible for medical quality and for contributing to the building of a sustainable department with a clear direction, strong collaborative relationships and good, cohesive pathways for our heart patients.
You must be able to combine strategic vision with presence in daily operations, and you must be a listening, inclusive and clear in your leadership style. We also expect you to be a visible and accessible leader with a focus on both operations, well-being and the long-term development of the specialty. In Randers we have an ambition to be truly proficient at the ordinary – not necessarily experts in the specialized.
An important part of the task will be to recruit, attach and develop skilled cardiology specialists and support the overall competence development in the department. It is important that good frameworks are created for education, professional development, quality work and research. We prioritize close and trusting collaboration with other departments at the hospital and relevant partners in the region.
You and the chief nurse will report to the health and hospital management and become part of the hospital's overall department management circle and thus the strategic leadership across the hospital.
About the cardiology specialty at Regionshospitalet Randers
The cardiology department in Randers has a main function for about 230,000 inhabitants in the catchment area, which includes Randers, Favrskov, Syddjurs and Norddjurs municipalities.
We have an extensive outpatient function, consisting of AFLI clinic, heart failure clinic and a large ECHO clinic. We also have a well-functioning cardiac CT section and an ambition to establish an AK/VTE clinic.
All acute heart patients are currently received directly in the Acute Cardiology Clinic during daytime by a multidisciplinary team. The physical location lies side by side with the Cardiovascular Ward, and there is a well-integrated collaboration between the two units.
Cardiology currently has seven permanent cardiologists and is still a part of the Medical Department, where there is close cooperation with the other internal medical specialties.
