About the job

Principal at Rudolf Steiner School Kvistgård and Steiner-HF/EPX

We are seeking a principal who can lead the school's pedagogical, organizational and administrative work and continue the school's strong development in close cooperation with the school management and the coordinators. Our school educates students from entering kindergarten through to graduating as students. We can do this because we rest on a strong value foundation, a nearly 50-year-old history and a culture characterized by high professionalism as well as strong employee and parent engagement.

The incoming principal must understand and respect this foundation and at the same time have an eye for the demands and opportunities the school will face in the coming years. For Steiner-HF, the transition from HF to EPX will be particularly significant for our oldest students and the staff.

Steiner pedagogy and the school’s value base

Our principal is the cultural bearer of the school’s identity and, as such, must have an understanding of and interest in Rudolf Steiner education and the school’s value base. As the school’s ethical compass, the principal must place student well-being at the center and respond openly and exploratorily to pedagogical and societal development and contribute to developing the school in harmony with the surrounding society.

Leadership of staff and pedagogical practice

Our new principal will play a central role in leading the school’s different staff groups. We employ both teachers, pedagogues, janitors, administration and several other professional groups, and you must be able to create coherence across these disciplines, functions, and physical parts of the school. It is important to us that our principal is present in everyday life and can both see the individual employee and have an eye for the overall working environment that we are all part of.

It is important for us that the school leadership is characterized by open dialogue and genuine employee involvement while at the same time the principal must set a clear direction, make decisions and take responsibility when action is required. You must therefore also be able to handle disagreements and conflicts and remain calm in difficult situations.

We place a strong emphasis on a deep interest in teaching and pedagogy as well as a curiosity about children’s and young people’s life, development and well-being, across the Primary, Middle and Upper School. It is expected that the principal is close to the school’s pedagogical reality and teaches to some extent themselves.

Organization, economy and administration

We are seeking a principal who can combine value-based and pedagogical leadership with clear organizational, financial and strategic leadership.

The principal has overall responsibility for the school’s organization, operations and finances. It requires the ability to create structure and overview in a complex organization with many different considerations, rules and regulatory requirements. Here we would like our future principal to understand that the administration is an important foundation for stability and forward movement and for a strong pedagogical learning environment.

The principal must be able to ensure responsible financial management, navigate relevant legislation securely, collaborate closely with administration and delegate responsibilities so that the organization’s competences are brought into play in the best possible way.

The principal is also expected to collaborate with the board.

Our school in the future

We face a number of significant strategic tasks. Central development areas are

  • shaping and anchoring the school’s development in connection with the upcoming transition from HF to EPX
  • student recruitment and PR work to make the school visible
  • development of the school’s physical premises
  • a possible double-track kindergarten class offering
  • continued development of Steiner pedagogy in dialogue with newer pedagogical research.

At the same time, it is important that the principal can connect daily operations and the details therein with the school’s long-term development.

Communication and relationships

The principal is a central representative of the school and must be able to communicate clearly and credibly with staff, students and parents as well as with the board, other Steiner schools, educational institutions, authorities and other partners. We place emphasis on integrity, knowledge of people, diplomatic sense and the ability to build trust.

Our incoming principal

We envision a principal who

  • is empathetic, listening and dialogue-oriented
  • is clear and decisive
  • is rooted in themselves and maintains calm and an overview
  • has strong competencies in organizational and financial areas
  • is actively involved and visible
  • is strategically minded and development-oriented
  • is curious about the staff, the students and the young people and about the society the school is part of
  • is a strong communicator with good relational skills
  • has pedagogical training

It is not essential to come from a particular type of organization. What is essential is that you have leadership expertise, pedagogical interest and understanding of value-based school leadership.

We are seeking a principal who can stand up for the school’s values, bring the organization together and make the decisions that will ensure that we continue to be a strong and relevant school.

You will become part of a strong collegial community at a vibrant and dynamic school with 88 staff across professions.

Salary and terms of employment are negotiated individually with the school’s board based on applicable agreements in the field (including the Chief Negotiator Agreement), depending on qualifications and background. For further information you are welcome to contact: Member of the HF class-leader team, Jacob Rosendal Pedersen, tel.: 2196 9181 School Leader, Marianne Kusk, tel.: 2830 0850 Chair of the Board, René Viborg, tel.: 2617 7788 Vice-Chair of the Board, Emil Hørlyck Akselsen, tel.: 3132 3660
