About the job

Project Nurse/ optometrist, Clinical Research Unit, Roskilde Eye Department, Zealand University Hospital

Research Nurse/optometrist at the Eye Department, Zealand University Hospital, Roskilde

The Eye Department, Roskilde Hospital, is seeking a project nurse/optometrist from 1 January 2027 or shortly thereafter; the position is 25 hours per week by agreement, distributed over 3 weekdays. The position is funded by external funds and employment is conditional on these funds. Depending on background and competencies, full-time may possibly be offered where the remaining working time is used for clinical work in the department.

The main function will be in the Unit for Clinical Eye Studies, which conducts clinical trials of new medicines. This work is carried out either in collaboration with private companies primarily from the pharmaceutical industry or as part of grant-funded drug trials. Currently there are 2 project nurses on a part-time basis, 1 optometrist/medical secretary, 2 specialists involved in drug trials.

The Unit for Clinical Eye Studies is part of the overall Clinical Research Unit in the Eye Department, Zealand University Hospital, to which currently are affiliated 1 professor, 1 nursing science research leader, 2 project nurses, 1 research secretary/optometrist and 3 PhD students. So you will become part of an active interdisciplinary environment with a strong focus on preparing eye health for our patients.

Applicants must be able to work independently, be flexible and service-minded. At the same time be co-responsible for planning, coordination and implementation of the department's drug trials in collaboration with other staff in the Unit for Clinical Eye Studies. Knowledge of clinical research and/or Good Clinical Practice (GCP) is not a requirement, but would be an advantage.

The applicant must have good collaboration skills. The applicant must be able to communicate orally and in writing in English, as investigator meetings, certifications and protocols are always in English, and there are also several telephone meetings with the monitor attached to the study, which take place in English.

Applicants with an academic degree and experience in preparing grant applications may be considered for a full-time position.

Job description

The specific tasks primarily consist of measuring standardized visual acuity (ETDRS); the applicant must be prepared to obtain formal certification in refraction in connection with clinical drug trials.

GCP certification must be obtained within the first month of employment.

In addition, the applicant must be able to independently (possibly after training) perform specific photographic examinations (OCT, autofluorescence, angiography, fundus photography etc.) according to the protocol and be able to obtain certification at an international Reading Centre.

The applicant must be able to function as study coordinator on individual trials, which may involve reviewing contracts and budgets.

Maintenance of current databases, entry into electronic Case Report Form (eCRF), as well as an overview of all material (e.g., informed consent) used in the respective projects will be part of the daily tasks.

The department is currently located in Roskilde but is expected to move to SUH, Køge in 2028.

Salary is according to the applicable collective agreement.

Application deadline is 21 October 2026
