About the job

Would you like to contribute to enhancing the veteran effort in the Danish Defence and be part of a team that conducts exciting research with soldiers, veterans and their families, at a time when the Defence is prominent in many people’s minds?

Are you interested in working with the veteran area and do you wish to join a strong team of committed researchers? Then this position might be for you.

About us

The Knowledge Centre is part of the Veteran Centre under the Personnel Command. The Veteran Centre's task is prevention, treatment, support and follow-up for soldiers deployed on international missions. The Veteran Centre employs about 170 staff across Denmark, and the centre consists organizationally of a core staff and three departments, in addition to the Knowledge Centre: the Military Psychology Department and the Advisory and Rehabilitation Department.

Thus, we have many professional disciplines within the Veteran Centre, including psychologists, researchers, physiotherapists, social workers, employment consultants, administrative staff and military personnel.

The Knowledge Centre is characterized by high professional standards, room for diverse interests and a strong commitment to our field. The leadership style is defined by a high degree of accessibility, freedom and delegation of tasks, and we prioritize social interaction and seminars.

About the position

You will become part of a small and specialized research team of about eight researchers, three data managers, a civil head and a acting military chief. Our primary task is research that, in a broad sense, supports the qualification of the veteran effort. We work quantitatively and qualitatively in a diverse group with expertise in psychology, public health science, medicine and humanities.

As a researcher at the Knowledge Centre you will have the opportunity to develop your own initiated research, while contributing to a broad portfolio of tasks related to ministerial service, preparation of internal and external reports and data collection.

As a researcher at the Knowledge Centre, the primary task is to develop, carry out and report on research as well as evaluate treatment effects that are relevant to the qualification of the veteran effort. In addition, you will assist with the centre’s operations. Given the framework for our work at the Knowledge Centre, there are fewer requirements to obtain external research funds than in a university environment, which gives more time for core tasks.

We imagine that the current position can be filled by a researcher or a senior researcher.

This is a permanent position, typically full-time. Your place of work will be at the Garrison in Ringsted, where about 60 staff have their daily operations.

The focus of the position can be within current focus areas concerning veterans. At the moment the Knowledge Centre has a particularly strong focus on delivering research about complex PTSD, moral injury, and interventions for children and relatives of veterans, as these areas have high priority in the 2024 Veterans Agreement. Other research areas include, among other things, studies of risk factors for developing PTSD, evaluation of treatment effects, transdiagnostic perspectives on stress and trauma, and optimization of selection procedures.

The Knowledge Centre will be a good place for you if you want to complement these research perspectives. We would also like to hear from you if you have perspectives that can broaden the Knowledge Centre’s research portfolio with new viewpoints that can support and qualify work with veterans and their families.

We offer good opportunities for professional development and participation in conferences, as well as in national and international research networks.

About you

You have a relevant master's degree in e.g. psychology, medicine, public health science, sociology, data science or similar, and you have completed your PhD in a field relevant to the positions. It is an advantage to have experience with research in trauma, veterans or other areas related to the centre’s research activities.

You are methodologically strong, have good analytical abilities and may have a quantitative or qualitative background. If you have a quantitative background it is a clear advantage that you are competent at a level where you can perform independent analysis while you can discuss important methodological considerations with colleagues at both basic and advanced levels.

You must be able to formulate original and relevant research projects within your field, and you can communicate your knowledge and ideas in both Danish and English.

It is important that you can thrive working with research in a politically governed organization with a specific purpose. You must be able to work independently and with a high level of professionalism approach tasks with drive. We are looking for a collaborative colleague who would like to join a research group where we often help each other on projects.

For appointment at researcher level we expect that you have completed your PhD and ideally have experience of participating in different research environments. For possible appointment at senior researcher level we expect that you have experience and qualifications corresponding to a lecturer level.

Employment terms

The appointment is in accordance with the Academic Collective Agreement and Circular on protocol regarding certain terms of employment for scientific personnel at the Veteran Centre’s knowledge centre and the Veterans Centre’s provision for the Knowledge Centre’s scientific position structure, currently CENTBST 401-1.

Depending on your qualifications and competences, there is a possibility for negotiation of an allowance. There is a employer-funded pension scheme attached to the position.

The workplace is in Ringsted.

As an employee within the Ministry of Defence you are subject to certain special terms. You must, among other things, be security-cleared and maintain the clearance throughout the entire employment relationship.

You have a duty as an employee to perform service outside the country’s borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, humanitarian and other similar operations.
