About me

I am a 49-year-old woman with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). More precisely I have Bulbar ALS. I live in my own house in Stubbæk, south of Aabenraa, together with my husband, our twin boys aged 15, and our little Jack Russell terrier.

I have reduced function in my arms and legs, but I can still walk a few meters with rollator support. In daily life I use an electric wheelchair and various aids. I was tracheostomized in March 2026, and mainly use a ventilator at nap time and at night. I have lost my voice and communicate with an eye-controlled computer, signs, and a spelling board.

I primarily receive tube feeding, but I also eat some evening meals when desire and energy permit.

About the job

I have a 24-hour staffed BPA arrangement with a fixed team and some substitutes. I am looking for an additional temp worker who can take Friday or Saturday evening/night every other weekend. The working hours are from 19:45-07:00 (awake night shifts). It will be possible to take other shifts if someone is sick, on vacation, or if the other staff wish to swap a shift.

If you do not have a respiratory helper certificate from Respirationscenter Syd, you will be trained on the job (60 hours) in ventilator care with a final exam at Respirationscenter Syd.

You will be alone on duty with me, but you will also be part of a helper team where at each shift change you have a quarter-hour overlap and then you meet occasionally at staff meetings.

Responsibilities

• Personal care and help with dressing
• Tube feeding and respiratory care
• Light cleaning, washing of equipment and laundry
• Tube feeding
• Be my arms and legs in daily life and at night

Your qualifications

• You are a woman (for reasons related to personal care tasks)
• You have a category B driving license and can drive my Mercedes Sprinter with lift
• You like/are comfortable with dogs
• You have good physical fitness, as transfers may be required eventually
• You must be able to stay awake at night
• You are tolerant, empathetic, calm, responsible and can maintain an overview
• You are reliable and punctual, as I need you
• You are flexible and help your colleagues when they are sick or need to swap a shift
• You have good sense of situation and can be the fly on the wall when needed
• You are self-driven in relation to work tasks
• Experience or knowledge of the field is an advantage, but not a requirement, as training will take place. A good personal relationship and human understanding are the most important aspects of this job.

Employment terms

The employment is arranged through DHO – Din Hjælperordning, which handles the employer responsibilities. DHO is covered by the BPA-Handicapped Helper agreement between Danish Business and FOA.

The employment is hourly paid. The hourly wage is 155.87 DKK per hour plus supplements for evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
