Scientific assistant in clinical and preventive dentistry

Institute for Clinical and Preventive Dentistry, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark seeks an engaged person for a 1-year fixed-term appointment as a scientific assistant (up to 37 hours/week), who wishes to be part of building a completely new dental institute and the development of the future dentist and dental hygienist educations.

There may be a possibility for subsequent employment in a Ph.D. program, depending on funding and the institute's needs.

About the position

We are seeking a candidate with a broad dental profile and an interest in developing university education.

As a scientific assistant you will primarily contribute to research and development activities within clinical and preventive dentistry and also contribute to research-based teaching and development of the new dental educations.

The decisive factor is not that you are subspecialized at this moment, but your motivation to contribute to the development of a modern, research-based dental education.

Responsibilities

As part of the institute's build-up you are expected to actively contribute to

• participation in research projects within clinical and preventive dentistry
• contribution to the development of the institute's research programs and research environment
• contribution to scientific publishing and dissemination
• contribution to applications for external funding
• planning and execution of teaching courses
• teaching at bachelor and master's level for both dental and dental hygienist students
• development of clinical learning courses, simulation and competency-based teaching
• examination and supervision of students
• collaboration with clinical teachers, private educational clinics and other partners
• development of the institute's teaching and learning environment
• development of the new dentist and dental hygienist educations, which are expected to start in the summer of 2027

Teaching will be based on evidence-based dentistry and have a close link between basic science, clinical skills and patient treatment.

Research

The institute is in the process of building the research unit APEX, which aims to strengthen national and international research environments within clinical and preventive dentistry.

Qualifications

We expect that you

• are a trained dentist
• have Danish authorization as a dentist or meet the requirements to obtain Danish authorization
• have clinical competencies
• have experience with or interest in research within the dental field
• have experience with or interest in teaching and supervising
• wish to actively contribute to the development of a new dental institute
• thrive in a cross-disciplinary university environment
• have good collaborative skills.

Employment is conditional on scientific qualifications at master's level according to the current note on position structure for universities.

About the institute

The Institute for Clinical and Preventive Dentistry has been established to support the University of Southern Denmark's new dental and dental hygienist educations.

The institute shall educate future dentists and dental hygienists through research-based teaching, modern simulation, clinical training and close interaction with the surrounding health sector.

The vision is to create an internationally oriented research and education environment where clinical excellence, evidence-based practice and interdisciplinary collaboration go hand in hand.

Employment terms

Employment takes place in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

Employment as a scientific assistant is on salary scale grade 4-8 of the state salary scale depending on seniority. In addition, a centrally agreed allowance is provided to scientific assistants, and further qualification and position allowances may be agreed after concrete negotiation.
