About the job

Are you as happy shipping a software product as you are seeing a green pipeline, would you rather write a tool than do the same thing twice, and do you want a voice when the Defense builds the infrastructure of the future?

-Then we have a split role, classified networks, and a place for you.

About us

AI is already redefining the frameworks for society, security policy, and military tasking. The future battlefield will increasingly be characterized by data, autonomy, and faster decision-making processes. The Danish Defence AI Center (FAIC) has been established as a new unit under the Defence Command to ensure that AI is translated into real Danish and allied defense capability.

We set the direction for the Defence’s use of AI – from doctrine to operational reality. We do this by building capabilities, collaborating with NATO, allies, academia, and industry, and in close cooperation with the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (FMI), so procurements and deliveries start from the soldiers’ needs and the Defence’s core mission.

Our collaboration with Gefion, Denmark’s national AI supercomputer, illustrates our approach: we leverage open environments to create learning and tempo, while also building the secure frameworks that make AI usable in a military reality.

FAIC is the place where the Defence’s AI future is shaped. We are looking for experienced profiles who want to be part of it from day one.

About the role

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you don’t have to choose between coding and running infrastructure. You develop software products that solve real tasks for the Defence’s users, and you also build the platform that brings code and models from first commit to secure operation on classified networks. You know what happens right down to the hardware, from GPUs and InfiniBand to power and cooling. You write infrastructure as code, build CI/CD and MLOps pipelines, and take ownership of your products all the way – following the principle you build it, you run it .

You work closely with the Gefion team, which operates Denmark’s national AI supercomputer, so the AI Center’s developers can utilize the capacity safely and easily.

Security and documentation are built in from the start so accreditation runs in parallel with development rather than slowing it down. And when the Defence builds big, e.g., with Digital Backbone, you will be at the table as the one who can explain what works in practice and why.

The role is for you who would rather write pull requests than make recommendations to management, and who gets irritated by manual processes.

Your key tasks

  • Develop software and internal platform products: Build applications, services, APIs, and developer tools from idea to operation, primarily in Python, Rust, TypeScript, or Go. You take responsibility for the whole product lifecycle and make it easy for other developers to build and deliver good solutions.
  • Build and operate AI infrastructure: Establish and evolve the Defence Center’s development, testing, and production environments across classification levels. You work with container platforms, GPUs, high-speed networks, and storage, and collaborate closely with the Gefion team and other compute partners to use the capacity safely and effectively.
  • Automate development and delivery: Build CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and MLOps solutions that automate testing, security scanning, deployment, and operations. You establish robust and traceable delivery paths from development environments to classified and isolated production environments and ensure that the solutions can be monitored and maintained.
  • Integrate security and accreditation: Build security into software, platform, and delivery processes from the outset. You work with access control, hardening, vulnerabilities, and documentation and coordinate the technical part of accreditation so security and traceability requirements align with development velocity.
  • Advise on architecture and strategic choices: Contribute to the Defence’s larger infrastructure and digitalisation projects, including Digital Backbone and DOT. You translate technical possibilities, risks, and limitations into recommendations on architecture, technology, and procurements – from the concrete platform to long-term choices of AI and compute infrastructure.
  • Create alignment across the organisation: Be a technical focal point between the AI Center’s developers, the Cyber Division, FMI, Gefion team, and other partners. You contribute to architectural decisions and code reviews, share your knowledge, and help set a technical direction that works in practice and in the Defence’s broader context.

We offer a job where you build software products and the Defence AI platform from the ground up, work closely with the Gefion team, and have real influence on how Defence infrastructure will look for many years to come.

About you

We imagine you have a relevant technical education in, for example, computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or cybersecurity – or you have built equivalent competencies through your professional experience. The most important is that you have a solid technical foundation and several years of software development experience combined with DevOps, platform engineering, or site reliability engineering.

You have developed and delivered software in production and code fluently in at least one of the languages Python, Rust, TypeScript, or Go. You also have solid experience with Linux, containers, orchestration, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.

You understand how software, hardware, and infrastructure fit together. You have experience designing or operating cloud, on-premise, or HPC environments and can relate to GPUs, networks, storage, and the performance and secure operation requirements. You don’t need to be a specialist in all parts, but you should be able to understand the whole and make well-founded technical choices.

You also thrive on collaboration and advisory work. You can translate complex technical issues into clear recommendations, collaborate with different disciplines, and take responsibility for the technical direction – also when the solution must work across organisations and security requirements.

Experience with MLOps, GPU clusters, DevSecOps, or classified and isolated production environments is a plus. Familiarity with the Defence IT and security architecture, accreditation, NATO standards, or large public infrastructure and defence programs is also relevant.

You command Danish and English in a professional context.

About the Defence AI Center (FAIC)

AI is redefining both the battlefield and the way the Defence creates and uses combat power. AI shortens the path from observation to decision and effect and opens up task solutions that were not previously possible. AI is not something that merely supports the Defence’s operations — AI helps define them. Therefore AI has a central role in the Defence, and that is why the Defence AI Center (FAIC) is established as a new unit under the Defence Command.

FAIC sets the direction for how the Defence uses AI, so investments translate into real Danish and allied defence capability. We prioritise operational needs across services and commands in close dialogue with operators, and we build partnerships with NATO, allies, academia, and industry. Our task is to ensure that AI becomes combat power — not technology for technology’s sake.

We work AI-first and innovatively enough to change ourselves as reality changes. That means short cycles, close to the operator, with pace and learning as operational requirements. We develop in open environments to gain speed and insight, and we take solutions into operations in classified environments where security and operational relevance are critical. We have access to some of the Nordic region’s best computing power, and our infrastructure is built so that AI is part of the solution from the start.

The Defence AI Center is where the Defence’s AI future is shaped.
