About the job
Do you want to design automation, DevSecOps and platform engineering for the Defence's new digital infrastructure? Are you interested in a central role in a large greenfield transformation where security, isolation, compliance and technical quality are built in from the start?
About us
The Program for Digital and Operational Transformation shall secure the group's future IT support, and thus contribute to digital transformation and to strengthening the Defence's combat capability.
You will become part of the Digital Backbone department, which is responsible for the concrete establishment of the platform. It is an IT environment that is unique in size, task and characteristics, with colleagues ranging from unskilled to researchers.
The roles are placed in the section for technical architecture, design and engineering, which is under establishment, and which translates architecture, standards and operational needs into concrete technical designs for the Defence's new digital infrastructure.
We build the infrastructure from the ground up. It provides a rare opportunity to embed automation, security and standardization from the outset – and to help make the technical choices that will shape the platform for many years.
Our goal is an infrastructure where automation is not an add-on, but a fundamental part of how the platform is established, configured, documented and evolved.
About the roles
We are seeking experienced Senior Automation and DevSecOps Design Specialists to design the shared automation, DevSecOps and platform capabilities on which the Defence's future digital infrastructure will be built.
Automation and DevSecOps shall support the platform across domains and contribute to a consistent, secure and reproducible way to build and further develop the infrastructure. We create robust automation and software delivery processes in environments with different classification levels, limited or no external connectivity and high requirements for security, traceability, documentation and control.
You have solid experience with automation, DevOps, DevSecOps or platform engineering, and want to apply your practical technical experience in a more design-oriented role. In the role you will be a central technical profile within automation and DevSecOps. You must be able to translate architecture principles, security requirements and operational needs into concrete designs that can be implemented in practice.
Your technical experience should qualify the dialogue with enterprise and solution architects. You are not only involved in translating architecture into technology; you are also involved in challenging, nuance-ing and improving the architectural choices. You must therefore both understand the overall context and be able to dive into the technology when a design needs to be evaluated, challenged or realized.
You shall design common principles and capabilities for CI/CD, IaC, GitOps, automated deployments, platform tooling, security controls and integration across the infrastructure. You will be part of establishing a modern Sovereign Private Cloud platform with several advanced service areas, including VMaaS, CaaS and BMaaS.
You will work closely with the programme's enterprise and solution architects, other design specialists and engineers, security specialists, project managers and civilian suppliers – from the first technical design decisions to implementation, initial operation and further development.
You are unlikely to be a specialist in all areas. The most important is that you have a strong technical core in automation and DevSecOps, solid practical experience and the ability to translate that experience into good technical designs.
We guarantee a varied daily life in an environment with a startup spirit, where a high level of responsibility goes hand in hand with a strong degree of influence. You will have the opportunity for flexible working hours, personal and professional development, an employer-funded pension scheme and a paid lunch break.
About you
Your educational background is not decisive. What counts is your experience, technical depth and ability to use your knowledge in complex design tasks.
We expect you to have solid and long-term professional experience in automation, DevOps/DevSecOps, platform engineering or related areas, and through practical work have built a deep understanding of how automated infrastructures and software delivery processes work in practice.
Your background could be, for example, as Senior DevOps Engineer, DevSecOps Engineer, Platform Engineer, Automation Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, SRE, Technical Lead or similar.
Perhaps you already work with design and architecture. Perhaps you are the experienced specialist colleagues turn to when a new pipeline, automation solution or platform needs to be designed across technologies, security requirements and compliance. Both profiles are interesting to us.
Experience with isolated environments, air-gapped solutions or high security and compliance requirements is an advantage but not a requirement. The most important is that you have the technical depth and experience we can build on.
We value high professionalism, but also good collaboration. We work with complex problems that no one solves alone, and we expect you to share your experience, challenge constructively and contribute to an environment characterized by trust, quality and strong professional sparring.
You master technical English and have a driving license for a standard car (category B).

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, we adjust the role. There is a possibility for negotiation of allowances. There is an employer-financed pension scheme attached to the position.
Your daily workplace is in Karup or Aalborg. You should expect regular travel to all our locations.
As an employee under the Ministry of Defence, you are subject to special terms. You must, among other things, be security cleared and maintain the security clearance throughout the employment.
